_. Mollie Hanbury, who died 27 January, 2020, aged 94, was a scion of the Burnaby-Atkins landed gentry family and a cousin, several times removed of the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.
The Queen Mother could trace her ancestry to the Burnaby family, long seated in Leicestershire. Mollie's brother Lt-Col Freddy Burnaby-Atkins, late The Black Watch, served as private secretary to Princess Margaret, and later joined the security services.
She was born Mary Dalrymple Burnaby-Atkins, 1 February, 1925, a daughter of John Burnaby-Atkins [1873-1946], of Halstead Place, by his wife the former Dorothy Dalrymple Graham [1895-1982]; married 12 January, 1954 [div], as his second wife, Peter Francis Hanbury, late the Welsh Guards, scion of that landed gentry family [he died 17 July, 2017, aged 99]. She leaves a son, Nigel Hanbury, and a daughter Rhona Brantly.
