_. The Lord Melchett, 4th baron, died 29 August, 2018, aged 70.
Peter Robert Henry Mond was born 24 February, 1948, son of the 3rd Baron Melchett (1925-1973) by his wife the former Sonia Elizabeth Graham (b 1928), the novelist Sonia Sinclair.
He was educated at Eton and Pembroke College, Cambridge; succeeded his father, 15 June, 1973, as fourth Baron (created 1928), and fourth Baronet (cr 1910).
Peter Melchett was a Lord in Waiting (Government Whip) in the House of Lords, 1974-75; Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department of Industry, 1975-76; Minister of State, Northern Ireland Office, 1976-79; Chairman, Working Party on Pop Festivals, 1975-76; Chairman, Community Industry, 1979-85; Chairman 1986-89, Executive Director 1989-2000, Greenpeace UK; chairman, Wildlife Link, 1979-87; Greenpeace Japan 1994-2001; Member of the Board of Greenpeace International, 1989, 2001; Vice-President, Ramblers Association from 1984, and President 1981-84, &c.
Lord Melchett leaves a partner, Cassandra Van Nostrand Wedd (born 1949), and two children, Jay Julian Mond Wedd, and Jessica Joan Mond Wedd.
The peerage and baronetcy now become extinct.
