Major Sir Peter Cecil Clarke, KCVO (1992), CVO (1969), LVO (1964); Chief Clerk, Duchy of Lancaster, 1969-92; Extra Equerry to HRH Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy; died 6 June, 2006. He was 78.
He was born 9 Aug 1927, the son of Capt. Edward Denman Clarke, CBE, MC (d. 1966), of Binsted, Isle of Wight, by his wife Maureen Cowie Leitch; and was educated at Eton and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.
Career:-->3rd King's Own Hussars and 14th/20th King's Hussars, 1945-64; Adjutant, 3rd The King's Own Hussars, GSO2 2 Infantry Division, 1959; Seconded as Assistant Private Secretary to HRH Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, 1961-64; Comptroller, 1964-68; Comptroller to HRH Princess Alexandra, 1964-69; Member, Court of Assts, Corp. of Sons of the Clergy, 1987-98; JP for Hampshire, 1971-81.
He married in 1950, Rosemary Virginia Margaret Harmsworth, daughter of T.C. Durham, Appomattox, Virginia, United States, by whom he had one son, Charles, and 2 daughtes, Virginia and Georgina.
The funeral service will take place at the Church of St Peter and St Paul, King's Somborne, Hampshire on Friday 16 June, 2006.A memorial service will be held later in the year.
