The Baroness Rothschild 1935-2019

_. The Baroness Rothschild, who  died 13 January, 2014, aged 83, was the wife of one Britain's wealthiest men, the 4th Baron Rothschild.

Lady Rothschild was a noted breeder and owner of racehorses at the Waddesdon Stud, Buckinghamshire.

She was born Serena Mary Dunn, 28 Apr, 1935, daughter of Sir Philip Dunn, 2nd Baronet (1905-76), by his wife the former Lady Mary Sybil St Clair-Erskine, daughter of the 5th Earl of Rosslyn.

Serena was a sister of the writer Nell Dunn.

She married 20 Oct, 1961, the Hon (Nathaniel Charles) Jacob Rothschild (b 29 Apr 1936), son and heir of Victor Rothschild, the 3rd Baron (1910-90). He succeeded his father, 20 March, 1990.

Lord Rothschild is worth $5bn, according to published sources.

Lady Rothschild is survived by her husband, son, Nathaniel, and three daughters, Hannah, Beth, and Emily.

Arthur Louis Gosselin Trower (born 2018)

_. Antonia Rose Trower (nee Twiston-Davies, born 22 Oct, 1987), wife of Edward J.G. Trower, gave birth to a son, Arthur Louis Gosselin, in Paris, 29 December, 2018.

Edward Trower is a son of Mr & Mrs Jonathan Trower, and Antonia is a scion of the Twiston-Davies landed family, the eldest daughter of Audley Twiston-Davies (born 1950), by his wife the former Hon Caroline Elaine Mary Harbord-Hamond (born 15 Dec, 1960), a goddaughter of Diana, Princess of Wales, a daughter of the 11th Baron Suffield.

The abovementioned Caroline Harbord-Hamond was a school friend of the then Lady Diana Spencer.
The princess attended the wedding of Caroline to Audley Twiston-Davies in 1985, and stood as godmother to their daughter in 1987.

Alice Isobel Suzanna Glynn (born 2019)

_.Suzanna Mary Caroline Glynn (nee Floyd, born 1983), wife of William Henry Glynn (born 1984), scion of that landed gentry family, gave birth to a daughter, Alice Isobel Suzanna, 15 January, 2019, a sister for Henry, who was born 4 March, 2017.

William Glynn is a son of John Dennis Glynn (b 1933), by his wife Sarah Lyall Maybury. Suzanna Glynn, is a scion of the Floyd baronets, a daughter of  David Henry Cecil Floyd (b 1956), by his wife the former Caroline Ann Beckly.

_. (Anthony) Francis Gradidge, late the 17/21 Lancers, who died 14 January, 2019, aged 79, married (1) 1970, Diana Joan Strang Steel (1947-75), scion of the Steel baronets, dau of Sir Fiennes Strang Steel, 2nd Bt; married (2) as her 2nd husband, Elizabeth Holdsworth Hunt (1947-2013), daughter of Maj Francis Holdsworth Hunt by his wife the former Elizabeth Rosalind Weld-Forester, scion of the Barons Forester. He leaves a son and a daughter from his first marriage.

Funeral Service on Monday 28 January, 2019 at St Mary-le-More Church, Wallingford.

_. Christopher Prentis died 13 January, 2019, aged 77. He married  Joanna Margaret Jardine Paterson (b 1943) d of David Jardine Paterson (1914-71), by his wife the former Margaret (Margot) Evelyn Crawford (1916-) d of Col Thomas Crawford Boyd, CIE (1886-1967), scion of the Irish gentry family of that name, and Dora Godsall (1884-1970).

 A service of thanksgiving will take place at St Mary's Church, Bickleigh, Tiverton, on Saturday 26 January, 2019.

Brabourne/Saint-Clare engagement

_. The engagement has been announced between Nicholas Louis Charles Norton Knatchbull, styled Baron Brabourne (born 15 May, 1981), only son and heir of the 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma (born 8 Oct, 1947), of Broadlands, Hampshire, by his wife the former Penelope Meredith Eastwood (born 1953), & Ambre Saint-Clare, a 'mer-lesque' artiste.

It is Lord Brabourne's third engagement to date, but according to the Daily Mail "friends are convinced that mermaid Ambre will not leave him at sea."

Lord Brabourne is a great-grandson of Admiral of the Fleet the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma.

_. Alison Linda Kelly, died 12 January, 2019. She was the wife of Laurence Charles Kevin Kelly (born 1933); she was born 1936, daughter of Maj Ronald Guthrie McNair Scott (1904-95), scion of the gentry family of that name Huish House, by his wife the former Hon Mary Cecilia Berry (1906-96, d of 1st Viscount Camrose (1879-1954)).

She m 1963 Laurence Charles Kevin Kelly (b 1933) s of Sir David Victor Kelly, GCMG (1891-1959) by his 2nd wife the former Renee Marie-Noele De Jourdan De Vaux (1901-95, scion of the French noble family of that name), by whom she had issue.

. Virginia Elizabeth Tarrell (nee Rivers Bulkeley, born 1986), wife of Thomas Hamish James Tarrell (born 1983), gave birth to a son, Henry James Johnny, 12 January, 2019.

Thomas Tarrell is the elder son of James A.S. (Jaimie) Tarrell, of Oxford, by his wife the former Catherine J. Jender.

Virginia Terrell is the youngest daughter of the late Lt Col John Edward Rivers Bulkeley, MBE (b 1945), of Bosherston, Pembrokeshire, by his wife the former Susan Mantell (born 1950).

The 2nd Viscount Slim, OBE, DL 1927-2019

_. The Viscount Slim, second holder of the peerage, died 12 January, 2019. He was 91.

John Douglas Slim was born 20 July, 1927, son of Field Marshal Sir William Slim, GCB, GCMG, who commanded the 14th Army at the end of World War II, served as Chief of the Imperial General Staff, 1948-53, was Governor General of Australia 1953-60. He was created a viscount in 1960.

John Slim served as a lieutenant-colonel in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, was president of the Burma Star Association; appointed OBE in 1973; a Deputy Lieutenant for Greater London from 1988.

He succeeded as 2nd Viscount Slim on his father's death, 14 December, 1970. He was elected to the House of Lords (Crossbencher) in 1999.

He married 18 July, 1958, Elizabeth Spinney (who died 16 October, 2018), daughter of Arthur Rawdon Spinney, CBE, of Kyrenia, Cyprus, by whom he had two sons and a daughter.

The peerage is now inherited by the elder son, the Hon Mark William Rawdon Slim, who was born 13 February, 1960.

Hermione Theodora Best-Shaw 1926-2019

_. Hermione Theodora Best-Shaw, who died 12 January, 2019, aged 92, was a scion of the Best-Shaw baronets. Born 10 May, 1926, daughter of Sir John Best-Shaw, 9th Baronet (1895-1984), by his wife the former Elizabeth Mary Theodora Hughes (1896-1986). Unmarried.

Jennifer Ann Lindsay 1929-2019

_. Jennifer Ann Lindsay (nee Brownrigg), died 11 January, 2019. Daughter of  Capt Thomas Marcus Brownrigg, CBE DSO RN (1902-67) by his wife the former Joyce Chiesman (1902-95).

She married 1955 Colin Paul Lindsay (1922-2006), scion of the Earls of Crawford & Balcarres, by whom she had issue. Her husband was a son Capt Hon Lionel Lindsay MC (1879-1965, s of 26th Earl of CRAWFORD and 9th Earl of BALCARRES (1847-1913)) and Kathleen Yone Kennedy (1880-1970, scion of the Ailsa marquesses).

 The funeral Service will be held at St Andrew’s Church, West Stoke, Chichester, on Tuesday February 5, 2019.

_. The Lady Charlotte Dinan, who died 11 January, 2019, aged 70, was a society beauty of the late 1960s, scion of the Earls Howe.

She was born Lady Charlotte Elizabeth Anne Curzon, 5 July, 1948, fourth daughter of the 6th Earl Howe, CBE (1908-84), by his second wife the former Grace Lilian Wakeling (died 1985); married 1988, Capt (John) Barry Dinan, of Chalkpit House, Knotty Green, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, by whom she had a son, Richard Asshelton Dinan (born 1986), founder of the student magazine Ammunition, and reality TV star appearing in "Made in Chelsea".

Lady Charlotte, a favourite of gossip columnist Nigel Dempster, was a younger sister of the four-times wed Lady Mary-Gaye Curzon, mother of Prince Harry's ex-squeeze Cressida Bonas.

Lady Charlotte is survived by her husband and son.
