Lord Hazlerigg, the 3rd Baron, died 29 March, 2022. He was 70.
Arthur Grey Hazlerigg was born 5 May, 1951, son of the 2nd Baron Hazlerigg [1910-2002], and his wife the former Patricia Ethel Pullar [1915-72], and succeeded to the peerage on his father's death, 30 September, 2002. The title was created in 1945 for his grandfather, Sir Arthur Hazlerigg, 13th Baronet [cr 1622].
The family are descended from Sir Arthur Hesilrige/Haselrig, one of the Five Members, who sat in the Long and Short Parliaments for Leicestershire, commanded a Parliamentary regiment of cuirassiers, and in 1647 became Governor of Newcastle. In 1660 he half acquiesced in the Restoration of King Charles II, but died a prisoner in the Tower of London, 7 January, 1661. The 11th Baronet, in 1818, adopted the present spelling of the family surname.
He married firstly, 1986 [div 1998], Laura Dugdale [born 20 Sept, 1953], scion of the Dugdale baronets, daughter of Sir William Stratford Dugdale, 2nd Baronet [1922-2014], and his wife Lady Belinda Pleydell-Bouverie [1925-61], scion of the Earls of Radnor; married 2ndly, 1 September, 1999, Mrs Shan Chichester, former wife of Dermot Michael Claud Chichester [born 22 Nov, 1953], scion of the Marquesses of Donegall, and daughter of Alastair Ros McIndoe [1926-85] and his wife the former Eileen Campbell [d 2016].
Lord Hazlerigg is succeeded by the son of his first marriage, the Hon Arthur William Grey Hazlerigg [who was born 13 May, 1987].
