The Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, 8th holder of the peerage, died 12 June, 2021. He was 82.
Lord Mount Edgcumbe [Earldom created 1789], was also Viscount Mount Edgcumbe and Valletort [created 1781].
He was a farm worker in New Zealand, and manager for Lands and Survey, New Zealand , 1975-84, and took up the family seat in Cornwall in 1984. His home was Empacombe House, Cremyll, Cornwall.
He was born 1 June, 1939, the second, but eldest surviving son, of George Aubrey Valletort Edgcumbe [1907-77], and his first wife Meta Blucher, daughter of Robert Charles Lhoyer, of Nancy, France.
He succeeded to the peerages and Cornish estate on the death of his uncle, the 7th Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, 9 December, 1982.
He married firstly, 1960 [div 1988], Joan Ivy Wall, daughter of Ernest Wall, by whom he had five daughters. He married 2ndly, in 2017, Beryl Joyce Cottrell.
Lord Mount Edgcumbe is survived by his second wife and five daughters, Lady Valerie, Lady Megan, Lady Tracy, Lady Vanessa and Lady Alison. The family honours now devolve upon his half-brother, the Hon Piers Valletort Edgcumbe [born 23 Oct, 1946], who is married with two daughters.
