The 2nd Baron Coleraine 1931-2020

 _. Lord Coleraine, the 2nd Baron, died 4 October, 2020. He was 89.

James Martin Bonar Law was a grandson of the Rt Hon Andrew Bonar Law, PC, MP, Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, 1922-23.

He was born 8 August, 1931, son of Richard Kidston Law [1901-80], by his wife the former Mary Virginia Nellis. His father PC (1943); b 27 Feb 1901; educ Shrewsbury and St John's Coll Oxford (BA 1923, MA 1945) MP (C) Hull  SW Oct 1931- June 1945, S. Kensington  Nov 1945- Feb 1950, Haltemprice Feb 1950-Jan 1954, Fin Sec War Office 1940-41, Parly U-Sec FO 1941-43, Min State FO 1943-45, Min Educn 1945, Ldr UK Delegn Hot Springs Conference on Food and Ag 1943; memb MRC 1936-40; chm Cncl of Br Socs for Relief Abroad 1945, Hon LLD New Brunswick 1951. Created a peer in 1954, taking the title Baron Coleraine, of Haltemprice in the East Riding of the County of York.

He succeeded to the peerage on his father's death, 15 November, 1980.

Lord Coleraine was thrice married. He married 1stly, 30 Apr, 1958 [div 1966], Emma Elizabeth Richards,  the only daughter of Nigel Richards, of Yeovil, Somerset; he married 2ndly, 31 May, 1966, [Anne] Patricia Farrant [who died 26 Sept, 1993], a daughter of Maj Ralph Henry Farrant, CB, of King's Acre, Wareham, co Dorset. He married 3rdly, 1998, Marion Robina [Robbie] Smyth, daughter of Sir Thomas Ferens, CBE [1903-92].

Lord Coleraine leaves issue from his first two marriages, 2 daughters from his first union, Elizabeth and Sophia, and a son, James, and two daughters, Henrietta and Juliana from his second marriage. The son, the Hon James Peter Bonar Law, born 23 February, 1975, succeeds as 3rd Baron Coleraine.
