Baroness Trumpington, PC 1922-2018

_. The Baroness Trumpington, PC, died 26 November, 2018, aged 96.

She was born Jean Alys Campbell-Harris in 1922, a daughter of Arthur Edward Campbell-Harris, MC, by his wife the former Doris Marie Robson; married 1954, William Alan Barker (who died in 1988) by whom she had one son.

Educated privately in England and France. Career: was a Land Girl on the estate of the Rt Hon David Lloyd George, MP 1940-41; with the Foreign Office at Bletchley Park, 1941-45; European Central Inland Transport Org, 1945-49; Secretary to Viscount Hinchinbrooke, MP (later the disclaimed Earl of Sandwich) 1950-2; Conservative Councillor, Cambridge City Council, Tumpington Ward, 1963-73; Mayor of Cambridge, 1971-72; Deputy Mayor 1971-73; on Cambridgeshire County Council, Trumpington Ward, 1973-75; created a life peer as Baroness Trumpington, of Sandwich in the County of Kent, 1980; a Baroness in Waiting (Government Whip) 1983-85, and 1992-97; Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, DHSS 1985-87, MAFF 1987-89; Minister of State, MAFF, 1989-92; UK Delegate to United Nations Status of Women Commission, 1979-82; Member of the Air Transport Users' Committee, 1972-80, Chairman 1979-80; Member of the Board of Visitors HM Prison Pentonville 1975-81; Member of the Mental Health Review Board 1975-81; President of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools 1980-89; Steward of Folkestone Racecourse 1980-92; Hon Fellow of Lucy Cavendish College Cambridge 1980; &c.
