Welby/Bates engagement

The engagement has been announced between Peter Welby (b 1988), son of the Most Rev & Rt Hon Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury (b 6 Jan 1956), by his wife the former Caroline E. Eaton (b 1957), and Miss Jen Bates. 

Welby has a distinguished lineage which includes kinship with Marshal of the RAF Charles Portal, 1st Viscount Portal of Hungerford, who was chief of the Air Staff though most of the Second World War, and he counts the Stuart kings among his ancestors. 

Welby is 12 generations in descent from the Merrie Monarch King Charles II and his French mistress Louise Renee de Penancoet de Keroualle, via their son Charles Lennox, who was created Duke of Richmond.

Viola Idina Edith Sackville (b 2013)

.__Sophia Georgina M. Sackville (nee Akroyd, b 1984), wife of the Hon Edward Geoffrey Richard Sackville (b 6 Dec, 1980), scion of the Earls De La Warr (Earl GB, 1761), gave birth to a daughter Viola Idina Edith, in July, 2013. Edward is the second son of William Herbrand (Sackville) 11th Earl De La Warr (b 10 Apr, 1948), of Buckhurst Park, Sussex, by his wife the former Anne Leveson; & Sophia is a daughter of the late Mr Mark T.S. Akroyd, by his wife the former Camilla E.L. Milton, now Mrs Christian Dangerfield, of Pencombe, Herefordshire. -=-

The 7th Marquess of Anglesey 1922-2013

_.The 7th Marquess of Anglesey, of Plas-Newydd, Llanfairpwll, Anglesey, Gwynedd, died 13 July, 2013, aged 90. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Gwynedd from 1983 to 1989. George Charles Henry Victor Paget was born 8 Oct, 1922, son of the 6th Marquess (1885-1947), by his wife the former Lady Victoria Manners (d 3 Nov, 1946), daughter of the 8th Duke of Rutland, and succeeded to the family honours on his father's death, 21 Feb 1947. Lord Anglesey was 7th Marquess in the Peerage of the UK (cr 1814), and Earl of Uxbridge, Baron Paget, of Beaudesert, and 10th Baronet, &c. He married 16 Oct, 1948, (Elizabeth) Shirley Vaughan Morgan, DBE, sometime chairman of the Broadcasting Complaints Commission, a kinswoman of the Duchess of Kent, daughter of Charles Langbridge Morgan, by whom he had issue, two sons and three daughters. The elder son, Charles Alexander Vaughan Paget, syled Earl of Uxbridge, who was born 13 Nov, 1950, now succeeds to the peerages and baronetcy. Private family cremation, followed by a private service at St Edwen's Church Llanedwen. A public Memorial Service will be held in Bangor Cathedral at a later date. -=-

29th Baron Dunboyne 1951-2013

_.The 29th Baron Dunboyne died 11 July, 2013. He was 61. John FitzWalter Butler was born 31 July, 1951, son of the 28th peer by his wife the former Anne Maria Mallet, and succeeded his father, 19 May, 2004, as 29th feudal baron (19th Baron by Letters Patent, cr 11 Jun 1541). He married 1975, (Diana) Caroline Williams, daughter of Sir Michael Williams, KCMG, by whom he had issue, a son, Richard Pierce Theobald, and three daughters, Genevieve, Imogen and Cleone. He is succeeded in the title by his son, who was born 5 July, 1983. Funeral Service at St. Denys' Church, Rotherfield on 25 July, 2013. -=-

George Nicholas Stuart Wallace (b 2013)

__.The Hon Camilla Harriet Wallace (nee Vivian), b 1976, wife of William S. Wallace, & scion of the Barons Vivian (Baron UK, cr 1841), gave birth to a son, George Nicholas Stuart, 7 June, 2013, a brother for Agatha. William is the elder son of Mr and Mrs Ian Wallace, of Winterslow, Wiltshire, and Camilla is the younger daughter of the late Brigadier the 6th Baron Vivian (b 11 Dec 1935; d 28 Feb 2004) by his 2nd wife, the former Carol Martineau. -=-

Grimthorpe/Benyon (nee Villiers) marriage

_.The marriage took place 14 June, 2013, between Edward John Beckett, 5th Baron Grimthorpe (b 20 Feb 1954), (Baron, UK, cr 1886), elder son of the late 4th Baron Grimthorpe (1915-2003), of Westow Hall, York, by his wife the former Lady Elizabeth Lumley, DCVO (b 22 Jul 1925), daughter of the 11th Earl of Scarbrough, KG & Mrs Emma Benyon (nee Villiers, b 16 Oct 1963), scion of the Earls of Clarendon (Earl, GB, cr 1776) (third daughter of Capt Anthony Henry Heber Villiers (b 1921), by his wife the former Rosemary Elizabeth Bell (b 1924), descended from the extinct Barons Barrymore. Lord Grimthorpe and Mrs Benyon both have previous marriages. -=-

St George/Brudenell-Bruce marriage

_.The marriage took place in July, 2013, between Henry Edward Hugh St George (born 1983), son of the late Edward Gerald .Patrick (Barbaro) St George (1928-2004), by his wife the former Lady Henrietta Fortune Doreen FitzRoy (born 14 Sept 1949), & Florence Anne-Marie Brudenell-Bruce (born 21 Nov, 1985), scion of the Marquesses of Bute, daughter of Andrew Robert Jose Brudenell-Bruce (b 27 Jul 1951), by his wife the former Sophie M.J. Inch. Henry St George is a grandson paternally of the Marchese di San Georgio, of Palazzo Armeria, Malta, and a grandson maternally of Hugh Denis Charles FitzRoy, 11th Duke of Grafton, KG (1919-2011). The model Florence 'Flee' Brudenell-Bruce was romantically linked with Prince Harry of Wales. -=-

Janet Mary Baroness Deramore c1916-2013

_.Janet Mary, Baroness Deramore, who died 4 July, 2013, aged 97, was the wife of Richard Arthur de Yarburgh-Bateson, 6th (and last) Baron Deramore. She was the former Janet Mary Ware, who served as 3rd Officer, WRNS in the Second World War, a daughter of John Ware, MD, of Nether Close, Askham-in-Furness, and married the then Mr de Yarburgh-Bateson in 1948. They had an only child, a daughter. Her husband succeeded his brother, 23 Dec, 1964 as 6th holder of the peerage (B cr UK, 1885; Bt cr 1818). The family home for many years was at Heslington House, Aislaby, Pickering, North Yorkshire. Her husband died 20 Aug, 2006, when the peerage & baronetcy became extinct. Lady Deramore is survived by her dau, Ann Katharine, who was born in 1950. The funeral takes place at Banbury Crematorium, 15 Jul, 2013. -=-

Eric Gerald Stanley Gale (b 2013)

Alan Robertson Campbell was born 24 May, 1917; was legal adviser to his fellow prisoners at Colditz, where his skilful advocacy saved several from execution; QC (1965); a Recorder of the Crown Court 1976-89; cr a life Baron as Baron Campbell of Alloway, of Ayr in the District of Kyle and Carrick (1981), &c. Married 1stly, Diana Watson-Smyth, from whom he was div in 1953; married 2ndly, 1957, Vivien (who d 2010), daughter of Commander A.H. de Kantzow, DSO, RN; married 3rdly, 1 Sept, 2011, Dorothea, dau of the late Colonel Edward Berwick, by his wife the former Lady Elizabeth Harris, dau. of James Edward Harris, 5th Earl of Malmesbury by his wife the former Hon. Helen Celia Titley is the elder dau of Maj-Gen Sir Evelyn WEBB-CARTER KCVO OBE DL (b 1946, the gt grandson of the 3rd Viscount HOOD (1808-1846)) and the Hon (Anne) Celia WIGRAM (b 1945, dau of 2nd & present Baron WIGRAM (b 1915) and his late wife, a scion of the Barons PENRHYN). -=-

Lady Harwood (1938-2013)

_.Lady Harwood, who died 1 July, 2013, was the wife for over 50 years of the playwright and screenwriter, Sir Ronald Harwood, CBE (b 1934). She was descended from Catherine the Great. The Russian Empress was Lady Harwood's great-great-great-great grandmother. Lady Harwood was born in London in 1938 as Natasha Reihle, younger daughter of William Riehle by his wife Helene Bobrinsky (1914-96). Her maternal grandparents were Count Lev Bobrinsky (1878-1922), who died in a Soviet prison in 1922, by his wife Princess Vera Galitzine (1877-1967). She married Ronald Harwood in 1959, and was mother of Antony (born 1960), Deborah (born 1963), and Alexandra (born 1966). -=-

The Hon Lady Waley-Cohen 1920-2013

_.The Hon Lady Waley-Cohen, who died 30 June, 2013, aged 93, was the widow of Sir Bernard Nathaniel Waley-Cohen, 1st Baronet (1914-91)who was Lord Mayor of London 1960-61, and a scion of the Barons Nathan (B, UK, 1940). She was born the Hon Joyce Constance Ina Nathan, 20 Jan, 1920, daughter of Harry Louis Nathan, 1st Baron Nathan (1889-1963), by his wife the former Eleanor Joan Clare Stettauer, and married Bernard Waley-Cohen, 21 Dec, 1943. Lady Waley-Cohen was MA (Girton Coll, Cambridge), a JP, Chairman Westminster Children's Hosp 1952-68, and Gordon Hosp 1961-68, &c. She was mother of two sons, Sir Stephen, the 2nd Baronet, Robert Waley-Cohen, and 2 daughters, Rosalind and Eleanor. Funeral at Golders Green Crematorium, 4 July. -=-

Death of Lady Blofeld, wife of Sir John

_.Lady Blofeld, who died 26 June, 2013, was wife of Sir John Christopher Calthorpe Blofeld, Knt (1991), DL (b. 11 July 1932) of Hoveton House, Norfolk. She was the former Judith A.H. Mitchell and married Sir John in 1961. She was mother of Charlotte, Thomas & Piers. The Blofeld pile, Hoveton House, near Wroxham, is a splendid William and Mary house, with its park originally laid out by Humphry Repton, & has been in the Blofeld family for over 300 years. Sir John Blofeld, was a Judge of the High Court of Justice Queen's Bench Division 1990-2001. -=-
