Sir John Maxwell Macdonald of Largie and of Pollok, 12th Baronet, died 24 December, 2023, aged 87.
He was born 22 May, 1936, son of John Maxwell Macdonald (1908-1995), head of that landed gentry family, and his wife Dame Anne Stirling-Maxwell, 11th Baronetess (1906-2011), who was recognised by Lyon Court in 2005 as 11th holder of the baronetcy (formerly Stirling-Maxwell) under the 1707 remainder, succeeding her father in 1956. One of the few baronetcies descendible to females.
He succeeded to his mother's baronetcy, 21 April, 2011.
Sir John married 18 July, 1964, Eleanor Ruth Laird, daughter of T.B. Laird, of Taylor's Wynd, Forfar, Angus, by whom he had issue, two sons, John and Angus, and a daughter, Victoria.
He is succeeded in the baronetcy (cr Nova Scotia, 1682), by his elder son, John Ranald (Jock) who was born 16 September, 1965.
