The Hon James Ogilvy, who died 3 January, 2024, aged 89, was a scion of the Earls of Airlie, and a younger brother of the late Hon Sir Angus Ogilvy, KCVO.
Mr Ogilvy, sometime of Sedgebrook Manor, co. Lincoln, served as a Page of Honour to HM King George VI 1947-51. He was commissioned into the Scots Guards, and was a stockbroker with Rowe & Pitman.
James Donald Diarmid Ogilvy was born 28 June, 1934, the third son of the 12th Earl of Airlie, KT, GCVO, MC (1893-1968), a Representative Peer for Scotland 1922-63; a Lord-in-Waiting to King George V 1926-29; KCVO 1929; Lord Lieutenant of Angus 1936-67; Lord Chamberlain to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother 1937-65; GCVO 1938; Knight of the Thistle 1942; Chancellor of the Order of the Thistle 1956-66, &c, and his wife the former Lady Alexandra Marie Bridget Coke (1891-1984), scion of the Earls of Leicester.
His elder brother, the Hon Angus Ogilvy (1928-2004), married 24 Apr, 1963, HRH Princess Alexandra of Kent (b 25 Dec, 1936), daughter of HRH Prince George, 1st Duke of Kent, son of HM King George V.
He married firstly, 2 July, 1959 (div) Magdalen Jane Ruth Ducas (1938-2001), daughter of Robert Ducas (1901-1978), and his wife the former Magdalen Mary Charlotte Stourton (1899-1981), scion of the Barons Mowbray, Segrave & Stourton, daughter of Major Herbert Marmaduke Joseph Stourton (1873-1932), and his wife the former Hon Frances Mary Winifred Southwell (1874-1950), scion of the Viscounts Southwell; and married 2ndly, 1980, as her third husband, Lady Caroline Child-Villiers (born 9 Apr, 1934), former wife of (1) the 6th Earl of Minto, OBE, DL (1928-2005), and (2) the Hon John Douglas Stuart (1925-1990), scion of the Viscounts Stuart of Findhorn, and daughter of the 9th Earl of Jersey (1910-98), and his first wife the former Patricia Kenneth Richards (1914-2017).
From his first marriage he leaves two sons, Shamus and Diarmid, and two daughters, Laura and Emma.
