Richard Kimber Franklin, actor, who died on Christmas Day, 2023, aged 87, was a grandson maternally of Sir Henry Kimber, 2nd Baronet (1862-1950).
Franklin played Capt Yates in Doctor Who and Denis Rigg in the ITV soap Emmerdale. It was as the on-and-off travelling companion of Jon Pertwee's Doctor Who that he gained a cult following.
Richard Kimber Franklin was born 15 January, 1936, son of Richard Harrington Franklin, a surgeon, and his wife Helen Margaret Kimber, daughter of Sir Henry Dixon Kimber, 2nd Baronet.
Richard Franklin unsuccessfully stood as a parliamentary candidate several times in general elections, for the Liberal Democrats in 1992, UKIP in 2001 and the Silent Majority Party in 2005. He never married.
