Sir Richard Baker Wilbraham, 8th Baronet, died 26 May, 2022. He was 88.
He was born 5 February, 1934, son of Sir Randle John Baker Wilbraham, 7th Baronet [1906-80], and his wife the former Betty Ann Torrens [who died 2 Oct, 1975]; and succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death, 24 February, 1980.
The baronetcy was created in 1776 for his ancestor Sir George Baker [1723-1809], physician to the Household of King George III and Queen Charlotte.
He served in the Welsh Guards 1952-54; was with J Henry Schroder Wagg & Co 1954-89; Director Westpool Investment Trust 1974-92; Director, Brixton Estate 1985-2001 [Deputy Chairman 1994-2001]; Director, the Really Useful Group plc, 1985-90; Director, Charles Barker Group, 1986-89; Director, Grosvenor Estates Holdings 1989-99 [Deputy Chairman 1989-99]; Director, Severn Trent 1989-94; a Church Commissioner, and Trustee of the Grosvenor Estate 1981-99; Governor of Harrow School; Deputy Chairman, Bibby Line Group, 1989-92, and Chairman, Bibby Line Group 1992-1997, &c.
Sir Richard, of Rode Hall, Scholar Green, Cheshire, married 2 March, 1962, Anne Christine Peto Bennett, daughter of Charles Peto Bennett, of La Haute, Fliquet, Jersey, and his wife the former Fru Farnes, a Norwegian, by whom he had issue, a son, Randle, and three daughters, Sibella, Charlotte, and Alice. The son, Randle [born 28 May, 1963], now succeeds to the baronetcy.
