Lord Hussey of North Bradley

The Lord Hussey of North Bradley, life baron, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the BBC, 1986-96, Chairman, Royal Marsden Hospital, 1985-98, has died at the age of 83.

Marmaduke James Hussey was born 29 August, 1923, the son of E.R.J. Hussey, CMG, and Mrs Christine Hussey, and was educated at Rugby School and Trinity College, Oxford (Scholar, MA; Hon Fellow, 1989).
Career: --->>served in the War 1939-45, with the Grenadier Guards in Italy, was severely wounded (lost a leg); joined Associated Newspapers, 1949, Director, 1964; Managing Director, Harmsworth Publications, 1967-70; Thomson Organisation Executive Board, 1971-82; Chief Executive, Times Newspapers Ltd, 1971-82; Joint Chairman, Great Western Radio, 1985-86; Director, William Collins plc, 1985-89; member, Select Committee on EEC, House of Lords, from 1997; Member, Govt Working Party on Artificial Limb and Appliance Centres in England, 1984-86; Trustee, Rhodes Trust, 1972-91; &c.
Marmaduke Hussey married in 1959, Lady Susan Katharine Waldegrave, DCVO, Lady-in-Waiting to Queen Elizabeth II from 1960, and a godmother of HRH Prince William of Wales; by whom he had one son and one daughter.
