Isabel Sarah Susanna Russell

Georgina N. Russell (née Dancy), wife of Capt. James Peter Faber Russell (b. 1980), of the Coldstream Guards, scion of the Barons Ampthill (descended from the Dukes of Bedford), gave birth to a daughter, Isabel Sarah Susanna, 15th April, 2009.

Jamie Russell is the 2nd son of the Hon. John Hugo Trenchard Russell (b. 1950), and Mrs Russell, of Ringstead, Dorset, & Georgina N. Dancy, elder daughter of Mr & Mrs Jonathan Dancy, of Newick, Sussex.

Harry Walter Blaise Byng

Annabel Byng (nee Hardman), b. 1971, wife of Thomas Francis Edmund Wentworth Byng (b. 1970), gave birth to a son, Harry Walter Blaise,17 April, 2009, a brother for Rose Florence Eve, who was b. 31 December, 2004, and for John Edmund Julian, b 26 October, 2006.

Tom Byng is a son of Mr Julian Michael Edmund Byng, (b. 1928), & Mrs Byng (nee Wellesley-Wesley). His father was born Julian Michael Edmund Lafone, son of Michael Wm. M. Lafone, who m. 1928, Lady (Florence) Elizabeth Alice Byng, daughter of the 6th Earl of Strafford, of Wrotham Park, Hertfordshire. Julian Lafone assumed the surname of Byng in lieu of his patronymic, by deed poll, (enrolled at the College of Arms) 1952.

Annabel Byng is a daughter of Blaise Noel Anthony Hardman by his wife Caroline Marion Cameron (b. 1943), daughter of the late Colonel Sir Donald Cameron of Lochiel, KT, CVO, TD, Chief of the Clan Cameron, by his wife, Margaret Doris Gathorne-Hardy (scion of the Earls of Cranbrook).

Tom Walford

Lara Katherine (Lally) Walford (née Chetwynd-Talbot, b. 1973), scion of the Earls of Shrewsbury, wife of Nicholas Walford, gave birth to a son, Tom, 19 April, 2009, a brother Ella and for Sam.

Nick Walford is the son of Mr Robert Walford, of Upavon, Wiltshire, and Mrs Richard Besley, of Suffolk, and Lally is a daughter of Major Mark Patrick Chetwynd-Talbot (b. 1941), late the Coldstream Guards, of Coxwold, North Yorkshire, by his wife, the former Elizabeth Anne Bateman.

Ken Annakin, film director, dies aged 94

Ken Annakin, OBE, the film director (Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines/Battle of the Bulge), who died 22 April, 2009, aged 94, was b 10 Aug 1914.

He was a nephew of the 1st (and last) Viscount Snowden (cr 1931, ext. 15 May 1937). Annakin's father was a brother of Ethel Annakin, who, in 1905, married the Labour politician, and future viscount, Philip Snowden.

Davina Alice Louisa Dalrymple

Emma R. Dalrymple (née Woods), wife of the Hon. David Hew Dalrymple (b. 1963) scion of the Earls of Stair & kinsman of HM The Queen, gave birth to a daughter, Davina Alice Louisa, 19 April, 2009, a sister for Alexander John Peter, who was b 29 April, 2007.

David Dalrymple is the 2nd son of the 13th Earl of Stair, KCVO, MBE (1906-96), by his wife the former Davina Katharine Bowes Lyon (b 1930); & David's maternal grandfather was the Hon. Sir David Bowes Lyon, KCVO (1902-61), younger brother of Queen Elizabeth, consort of HM King George VI.

Mrs Dalrymple is a daughter of Mr & Mrs Peter Woods, of Betchworth, Surrey.

Hugh Frederick Archbibald (Hughie) Arbuthnott (b 1982), scion of the Viscounts of Arbuthnott (cr S, 1641), son of Hugh Andrew Arbuthnott (b 1948), of La Almuña, Spain, by his wife, the former Elizabeth Jane Showers, and Clare B. Hilton, daughter of Mr and Mrs Geoffrey Hilton, of Keyworth, Nottinghamshire.

The Hon Emma Clark (née Tufton, b 1976), wife of Martin G.M. Clark, & scion of the Barons Hothfield, gave birth to a son, Benjamin Daniel, 18 April, 2009.

Martin Clark is the only son of Dr Paul Clark and Mrs Pené Clark, both of Milton Keynes, and Emma is the only daughter of the 6th Baron Hothfield, of Drybeck Hall, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria, by his wife Lucinda Marjorie Gurney (descended from the extinct de Bathe Baronets).

Augusta Mary (Gussy) Barnett (née Peto, b 1977), wife of William G. Barnett, & scion of the Peto Baronets (cr 1927), gave birth to a daughter, Elizabeth (Elsie) Katherine, 17 April, 2009.

Will Barnett is the eldest son of the late Charles Barnett and Mrs Barnett, of Northumberland, and Augusta is a daughter of Jonathan Basil Morton Peto (b. 1942), of Woodbridge, Suffolk, by his wife the former Hon. Selina Lilian Hughes-Young (b. 1944), daughter of the 1st Baron St Helens, MC, by his wife Elizabeth Blakiston-Houston, of the Baronets of that name.

Lady Berthon, widow of Vice Admiral Sir Stephen Berthon, dies

Lady Berthon, (née Elizabeth Anne Leigh-Bennett), who died 19 April, 2009, was wife of the late Vice Admiral Sir Stephen Berthon, KCB (b 24 Aug 1922; d 31 Jan 2007).

She leaves issue, Hermione, Simon, Venetia and Mark.

Lady Berthon was the dau of Henry Wolley Leigh-Bennett (d 1951, formerly Leigh, LG 1952 edn) and Elma Rose PRICE (1886-1969, a gt grand dau of Sir Rose Price 1st Bt (UK cr 1815) & 13th Baron of Dunsany (I c 1462)

Death of Laura Jane Montagu Douglas Scott, aged 64

Laura Jane Montagu Douglas Scott (née Harmsworth), who died 15 April, 2009, aged 64, was the wife of David Henry George Montagu Douglas Scott (1945-2001), scion of the Dukes of Buccleuch & Queensberry, and was a descendant of the Boothby Baronets. She was born 24 October 1944. 3rd dau of St. John Bernard Vyvyan Harmsworth (1912-95), by his wife the former Jane Penelope Boothby (b 1914), scion of the Boothby Baronets; and married David Montagu Douglas Scott, 10 Jun 1967. She leaves issue, 2 daughters, (i) Lucy Rose, b 18 May 1969, and (ii) Harriet Mary, b 1972. She also leaves grandchildren, Alfie, Henry, John and Will. Funeral private.

Sir Robin Gillett, former Lord Mayor of London, dies aged 83

Sir Robin Gillett, 2nd Baronet, who died 21 April, 2009, aged 83, was Lord Mayor of London, 1976-77.

Robin Danvers Penrose Gillett was born 9 Nov 1925, the son of Sir (Sydney) Harold Gillett, 1st Bt, MC, who was Lord Mayor of London, 1958-59.

He was educated at the Nautical College, Pangbourne, and Hill Crest School. He married in 1950, Elizabeth Marion Grace, the elder dau of John Findlay, JP, of Busby House, Lanarks, and is now succeeded in the baronetcy (cr 1959) by his elder son, Nicholas Danvers Penrose Gillett, born 24 September, 1955.

Death of Isabel Susan Ridley

Isabel Susan Ridley (née Spencer- Nairn) who died 16th April, 2009, was a scion of the Spencer-Nairn Baronets (cr 1933). She was b 1937, dau of Capt Robert Frank Spencer-Nairn (b 1910), late The Black Watch, who was a son of the 1st Baronet; by his 1st wife the former Caroline Isabel Chadwick; married 1966, Brig Nicholas John Ridley, late the Queen's Own Highlanders, descended from the Christison Baronets, by whom she had issue. Funeral Service on Monday 27th April 2009 at Holy Trinity Melrose.

Gabriella Diana Grafftey-Smith (nee Crewe-Read), b. 1974, wife of Toby Grafftey-Smith, gave birth to a dau, Rose Catherina, 16 April, 2009, a sister for Anastasia and Dylan Gabriel.
Gabriella is a daughter of David Offley Crewe-Read (b. 1944), by his wife Lisa, and is a granddaughter of Colonel John Offley Crewe-Read who married in 1940, the Hon. Diana Mary Wroughton (b. 1920), dau of the 1st (and last) Baron Robins (who d. 1962).

Moira Cooke-Hurle (nee King), who has died aged 87, was widow of Maj Frederick Joseph Cooke-Hurle (b 6 Jun 1914; d 17 Jan 1969), scion of the Cooke-Hurle LG family of of Startforth Hall, Barnard Castle, Co Durham; the former Moira Bernadine King, she married Maj Cooke-Hurle, 30 Dec, 1946; and leaves issue, two sons, (i) Robin Edward, b 26 Dec 1948 & Charles Frederick Cooke-Hurle, b 31 Jul 1951, & daughters-in- law Patrizia and Jo, & grandchildren, Clare, Tim and Mary and great- granddaughter Emily. Sir David Courtenay Mansel Lewis, KCVO, BA, JP, who died 17 April, 2009, aged 81, was Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, 1979-2002 (Lieutenant 1974-79; HM Lieutenant for Carmarthenshire, 1973-4); JP; cr KCVO, 1995; b 25 Oct 1927, son of Charlie Ronald Mansel Lewis by his wife the formerLilian Georgina Warner, dau of Col Sir Courtenay Warner, 1st Baronet, CB. He married 15 Apr, 1953, the Lady Mary Rosemary Marie- Gabrielle Montagu-Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie, b 11 June 1930, 4th dau of the 3rd Earl of Wharncliffe (1892-1953), by his wife the former Lady Maud Lillian Elfreda Mary Wentworth-Fitzwilliam. He is survived by Lady Mary and by three children, (i) Patrick, b 25 Nov 1953; (ii) Catherine, b 9 Nov 1955; & (iii) Annabel, b 10 Jul 1962. Funeral Service at All Saints Church, Goring Road, Llanelli, Friday 24th April 2009, and Committal at St Paul's Church, Manordeilo. Memorial Service to be announced at a later date.

The marriage took place at Harewood House, Leeds, 18 April, 2009, of the Hon Benjamin George Lascelles (b 23 Nov 1978), scion of the Earls of Harewood, and a great- great grandson of HM King George V and Queen Mary, 1st son of David Henry George Lascelles, styled Viscount Lascelles (born 21 October 1950), by his 1st wife the former Margaret Rosalind Messenger (b 1948); & Carolina Velez Robledo.

The marriage was a civil ceremony in the gallery at Harewood House.

Claire F. Mercer Nairne (nee Aussudre, wife of Samuel George (Sam) Mercer Nairne (b. 1976), scion of the Marquesses of Lansdowne, gave birth to a son, George Yvan, 7 April, 2009, a brother for Violet.

Sam Mercer Nairne is the 1st son of Lord Robert Harold Mercer Nairne (b. 1947), of Meikleour, Perthshire, by his wife, the former Jane Elizabeth Gordon (scion of the Marquesses of Huntly), & Claire is a daughter of the late M. Jean-Charles Aussudre and of Mme Francoise Aussudre, of Bordeaux.

Sam Mercer Nairne is a grandson paternally of the 8th Marquess of Lansdowne, PC (1912-99), and a grandson maternally of Lt-Col Lord Douglas Claude Alexander Gordon, DSO.
