Elizabeth, Lady Campbell (Lizbeth Webb) 1926-2013

The actress Elizabeth, Lady Campbell, who died 17 January, 2013, aged 86, was better known as Lizbeth Webb, one of the stars of British musical theatre. She was the wife of Col Sir Guy Theophilus Halswell Campbell, 5th Baronet, OBE, MC (Bt, UK, cr 1815).

She was born 30 January, 1926, as Elizabeth Sandra Holton, daughter of Frederick Holton, of Tilehurst, near Reading, by his wife Ethel. She was briefly engaged to Peter Sellers, and married 1stly, D.H Parker, a RAF pilot, from whom she was divorced; married 2ndly, 17 Aug, 1956, Col Sir Guy Campbell, Bt, who died in 1993. She leaves two sons from her second marriage, Sir Lachlan Campbell, 6th Baronet (b 9 Oct 1958), an artist and illustrator, and Rory Campbell (b 1961), the actor and opera singer.

Grimthorpe/Benyon engagement

_.The engagement was announced 28 February, 2013, between Edward John Beckett, 5th Baron Grimthorpe (b 20 Feb 1954), (Baron, UK, cr 1886), elder son of the late 4th Baron Grimthorpe (1915-2003), of Westow Hall, York, by his wife the former Lady Elizabeth Lumley, DCVO (b 22 Jul 1925), daughter of the 11th Earl of Scarbrough, & Mrs Emma Benyon (nee Villiers, b 16 Oct 1963), scion of the Earls of Clarendon (Earl, GB, cr 1776) (third daughter of Capt Anthony Henry Heber Villiers (b 1921), by his wife the former Rosemary Elizabeth Bell (b 1924), descended from the extinct Barons Barrymore.
Lord Grimthorpe and Mrs Benyon both have previous marriages. Mrs Benyon was divorced in 2003 from Richard Benyon, now Tory MP for Newbury, and a descendant of the Shelley Baronets.

Elizabeth Camilla Jessica (Betsy) Borthwick

_.Jessica Borthwick (nee Codrington), wife of (William) Martin Stanislaw Borthwick (b. 1981), scion of the Borthwick Baronets (cr. 1908), gave birth to a daughter, Elizabeth Camilla Jessica (Betsy), 14 February, 2013, a sister for Bella.

Martin is the son of Simon William Frederick Borthwick (b. 1950), of Ealing, London, by his wife the former Bozena Podwoiski, & Jessica is the eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs Edward Codrington, of Ealing, London.

_.Thomas Foster Rivers Bulkeley, MBE, who died 23 February, 2013, aged 96, was born 15 March, 1916, son of Frederick Rivers-Bulkeley by his wife the former Muriel Lyon, and a grandson of Alfred Charles Lyon, of Albrighton Hall, Salop, by his wife the former Laura Rose Swetenham, scion of that family of Somerford Booths, Congleton, co Chester; married Bridget Pattinson (b 1915), daughter of Hugh Lee Pattinson by his wife the former Catherine Lina Chaworth-Musters, scion of that landed family. He leaves issue.

Colonel Bridget Islay Forbes Adam, MBE 1927-2013

.Colonel Bridget Islay Forbes Adam, MBE, late Colonel, WRAC, who died at Salisbury, Wiltshire, 23 February, 2013, aged 85, was a scion of the Adam Baronets (Bt, UK, cr 1917), third of the four daughters of General Sir Ronald Forbes Adam, 2nd Baronet, GCB, DSO, OBE (1885-1982), by his wife the former Anna Dorothy Pitman. Unm. Her siblings were Barbara, Lady Proctor, Margot, and twin sister, Isobel. She was appointed MBE in 1960.

The 7th Baron Sandys 1931-2013

_.Lord Sandys, the 7th Baron, sometime Deputy Chief Whip in the House of Lords (Captain of the Yeoman of the Guard) in the administration of Margaret Thatcher, died at his home, 11 February, 2013. He was 81.

Richard Michael Oliver Hill was born 21 July, 1931, descends from Mary Sandys, wife of the 2nd Marquess of Downshire, who was raised to the peerage of the UK in 1802, as Baroness Sandys, with a special remainder allowing the title to pass, on her demise, to her second son.

Lord Sandys was a son of Arthur, 6th Baron (1876-1961), by his wife (and 3rd cousin) the former Cynthia Trench-Gascoigne (d 1990), and he succeeded to the peerage on his father's death, 24 Nov, 1961.

Lord Sandys was appointed a Lord in Waiting in 1974, was a Tory Whip in the Upper House 1974-9, then Deputy Chief Whip and Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard, 1979-83.

He married in 1961, Patricia Simpson Hall, daughter of  Capt Lionel Hall, of Lower Beeding, Sussex. There were no children of the union. The barony now devolves, under the terms of the special remainder, upon his distant cousin, the 9th Marquess of Downshire (who was born 4 Feb, 1959).

Lane Fox-Pitt (born 1981), scion of that landed family, daughter of the late Mr (William) Oliver Lane Fox-Pitt (1932-2011), by his wife the former Marietta Speed,  and sister of the British Olympic equestrian, William Fox-Pitt.

Miss Fox-Pitt is an old friend of the Duchess of Cambridge and was present at the Royal wedding in April, 2011.

General Sir Richard Worsley, GCB, OBE 1923-2013

_.General Sir Richard Worsley, GCB, OBE, who died 23 February, 2013, aged 89, was sometime Quartermaster-General to the Forces. He was born 29 May, 1923, and was twice wed, firstly, in 1958, to Sarah Mitchell, by whom he had issue, a son Henry and a daughter, Charlotte; married 2ndly, in 1980, Caroline Cecily, Duchess of Fife (born 12 Feb, 1934), former wife of the Queen's cousin, the 3rd Duke of Fife (b 23 Sept, 1929), and daughter of the 3rd Baron Forteviot (1906-93), chairman of the whisky distillers, John Dewar & Sons, by his wife the former Cynthia Monica Starkie.

General Worsley leaves a widow, his two children, Henry and Charlotte, and two step-children, David, styled Earl of Southesk (b 1961) and Lady Alexandra Etherington (b 1959).

Lennox-Boyd/Courtenay-Stamp engagement

She was born in 1978, the only child of Thomas Walter Montagu Douglas Scott (born 1 July, 1943), by his former wife the Hon Marion Miranda Phillimore (b 9 May, 1946), a daughter of the 4th Baron Phillimore (1911-94) (Peerage of the UK, cr 1918), and married in 2005, Anthony David Gibson-Watt (b 1975), scion of that landed family and grandson of the life peer, Lord Gibson-Watt, son of the Hon Robin Gibson-Watt (b 1949), by his wife the former Marcia Susan Cary (b 1949, scion of the Cary Baronets,Bt, UK, cr 1955), by whom she had one child, a daughter, Chiara Charlotte, who was born 11 Oct, 2012.

Old Etonian Trevor Wilford Boteler, who died at Long Island, New York, 16 February, 2013, aged 62, was scion of the landed family of Boteler, formerly of Eastry, Kent. He was born 5 March, 1950. He could trace his lineage back to John Boteler, of Sandwich, Kent, Mayor of Sandwich in 1440.

_. Jonathan Gray Ropner, who died at his home, 14 February, 2013, aged 81, was a scion of the Ropner Baronets, of Preston Hall (Bt, UK, cr 1904). Mr Ropner, of Patrick Brompton, near Bedale, North Yorkshire, was born 1 May, 1931, son of Sir William Guy Ropner, Knt (1896-1971), a director of the family shipping firm, by his wife the former Margarita Gray (died 1973), a daughter of Sir William Cresswell Gray, 1st Baronet; educated at Harrow;  lieut, Irish Guards. He married 31 Oct, 1953, Edith Avril Peat, daughter of Charles Urie Peat, MC, of Wycliffe Hall, Barnard Castle, Co Durham, by whom he had issue, 4 sons and 1 daughter. A memorial service will take place at Ripon Cathedral on 18 May.

Baroness Rix 1929-2013

_.The Baroness Rix (the actress Elspet Gray), died 18 February, 2013. She was 83.

Lady Rix, a charity campaigner for many years, appeared in the TV shows Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Dr Who, &c, and made a fine partnership with her husband Brian in the famed Whitehall farces.

She was born 12 April, 1929, as Elspet MacGregor-Gray, daughter of James MacGregor-Gray, of Surrey, and married in 1949, the actor Brian Rix, CBE, who was created a life peer in 1992, as Baron Rix, of Whitehall in the City of Westminster. She was the mother of 2 sons, James and Jonathan, and 2 daughters, Shelley and Louisa. Her elder daughter predeceased her in 2005.

_.The Lady Laura Duckworth-Chad (nee Fortescue Gore b. 1975), wife of Major James Anthony L'Etang Duckworth-Chad, Coldstream Guards, (b. 1972) former Equerry to Queen Elizabeth II, gave birth to a son, Harry Anthony Arthur Herbert Fortescue, 28 January, 2013, a brother for Molly Lettice Fortescue, who was born 21 September, 2006, and for Minna Evie, born 18 June, 2008, and Viola Cecily Fortescue, who was born 12 May, 2010.

James is the elder son of Anthony Duckworth-Chad, of Pynkney Hall, Norfolk, High Sheriff of Norfolk, 1992, by his wife Elizabeth Sarah Wake-Walker (a granddaughter of the 7th Earl Spencer).

Lady Laura is the elder daughter of the 9th Earl of Arran, of Castle Hill, Devon, by his wife the Countess of Arran (the former Eleanor van Cutsem). Major James Duckworth-Chad is a second cousin of the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry of Wales.

Angela Bromley-Martin (nee Hampden-Ross)

_.Angela Felicity Bromley-Martin, who died 12 February, 2013, was the widow of Capt David Elliot Bromley-Martin, RN (1914-2002) scion of the landed family of Bromley-Martin, of Ham Court, Worcestershire. 

She was born Angela Hampden-Ross, daughter of Sydney Hampden-Ross, FCA, FSAA, of Shek-O, Hong Kong, and married Capt Bromley-Martin as his second wife in 1949.There were two sons of the marriage, Robin and Michael. 

Her husband was Flag Officer 2nd in charge of the Far East, 1947-49, and involved in the Amethyst Incident, 1949.
