Charles Cornelius Maconochie Welwood, who died 22 October, 2023, aged 84, was head of the Scots landed gentry family of that name. He was a grandson maternally of the 10th Earl of Carlisle.
He was born in 1939, son of Laurence Robert Maconochie Welwood (1902-1978), and his wife the Lady Elizabeth Henrietta Howard (1903-1969), scion of the Earls of Carlisle; and married 4 May, 1964, Valerie Eileen Upson (1939-2012), daughter of Harold Kenneth Upson, of Kenya, by whom he leaves issue, a son, Robert James (born 4 February, 1967), who succeeds as head of the landed gentry family.
