She was b. 1923, as Lady Jane Pleydell-Bouverie, daughter of the 7th Earl of Radnor, KG, KCVO (1895-1968), sometime Keeper of the Privy Seal to the Prince of Wales and Lord Warden of the Stannaries, by his 1st wife, the former Helen Olivia Adeane (d. 1985); she married Tony Bethell in 1945, and was mother of 2 sons, Hugh (who married a St Aubyn of the Barons St Levan) and William, and 2 daughters, Camilla (who married a scion of the Viscounts Hood), and Sarah (who married a Ratcliffe-Brotherton). A Service of Thanksgiving takes place at All Saints' Rise Hull, 31 July 2006.

Her siblings included (1) Joan who married (i) a Guinness (ii) the Aly Khan (and was mother of HH the Aga Khan), and (iii) Viscount Camrose, and (2) Denise, wife of the 5th Baron Ebury. Lydia married (i) 1938, Capt Ian Archibald de Hoghton Lyle, Black Watch (who was killed in action in 1942), eld son of Sir Archibald Lyle, 2nd Baronet, and (ii) 1947 (divorced 1960) as his 2nd wife, the 13th Duke of Bedford (1917-2002).She leaves a daughter, by the first marriage, Lorna Elwes, and a son from the 1st marriage, Sir Gavin Lyle, 3rd Baronet, and a son from the second marriage, Lord Francis Russell.

Guy Newman Gilbey, who died at Melbourne, Australia, 19 July 2006, aged 53, was a scion from the family from which the Gilbey Baronets (cr 1893) descend. He was b. 23 Aug 1952, 2nd son of James Newman Gilbey (b. 1921), by his wife the former Celia Sparrow. He was a first cousin of James Gilbey (b. 1956), renowned as Diana, Princess of Wales's "Squidgy", &c. The Telegraph death notice says he was "Much loved by Siobhan and all his family". Makeig-Jones, CBE, and was educated at Eton and Christ's College, New Zealand; Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. Career: landowner, Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands from 2000. He succeeded to the peerages on the death of his father in 1977.
He was twice married, (i) in 1974 (divorced 1995) to Penelope Anne, daughter of Mr Roy Cooper by his wife Dorothy Henshall (now Mrs John Turner). His first wife is now the partner of the Rt Hon David John Mellor, PC, QC (b. 12 Mar 1949) former Conservative Cabinet Minister, broadcaster and journalist; married (ii) 1997, the yachtswoman, Dr Lisa Clayton, the first British woman to sail single handed non-stop round the world. He leaves nonissue from either marriage, and the peerages now devolve upon his Lordship's next brother, the Hon.
