Anne Duchess of Norfolk 1927-2013
_.Anne Duchess of Norfolk, who died 8 April, 2013, aged 85, was a founder of the hospice movement in the UK, and was the widow of the 17th Duke of Norfolk, KG (1915-2002), England's premier duke and Earl Marshal.
She was born Anne Mary Teresa Constable Maxwell, 30 Aug 1927, a scion of the Lords Herries of Terregles, daughter of Wing Cdr Gerald Constable Maxwell, DFC (1895-1959), by his wife the former Caroline Burns Carden (died 1984). She married in 1949, the Hon Miles Fitzalan Howard, eldest son of the 3rd Baron Howard of Glossop by his wife the Baroness Beaumont, who held the peerage in her own right. Her husband succeeded his mother as 12th Baron Beaumont in 1971, and his father as 4th Baron Howard of Glossop in 1972, and his kinsman as 17th Duke of Norfolk in 1975. He died 24 June, 2002.
The duchess leaves 2 sons, Edward, the 18th Duke of Norfolk and Lord Gerald Fitzalan Howard, and three daughters, the Countess of Balfour, the actress Marsha Fitzalan and Lady Carina, wife of Sir David Frost.
