 The Hon Eileen Esther Adams (nee Handcock), who died 24 December, 2018.

She was born 14 November, 1931, daughter of the 7th Baron Castlemaine (1904-73), and his wife the former Rebecca Ellen Soady (who died 25 Jan, 1978); and married 12 Oct, 1959, Flight Lieutenant Terence Frank Adams, son of Joseph Adams, by whom she had two sons, Patrick and Niall, and a daughter, Siobhan.

Flora Sally Elphinstone (born 2018)

 Rosie Elphinstone (nee Davies), wife of the Hon Fergus David Elphinstone (born 1985), scion of the Lords Elphinstone, gave birth to a daughter, Flora Sally, in 2018, a sister for Hamish Frederick, who was born in 2017.

Fergus is the third son of the late 18th Lord Elphinstone (1953-1994), and his wife the former Willa Mary Gabriel Chetwode (born 25 May, 1954), scion of the Barons Chetwode.

Flora Romany Heathcoat Amory (born 2018)

Thierry Heathcoat Amory (nee Kelaart), wife of Patrick Thomas Heathcoat Amory (b 1979), scion of the Heathcoat Amory baronets, gave birth to a daughter, Flora Romany, in Oxfordshire, in 2018, a sister for Joseph (born 2014), and for Atticus (born 13 April, 2016).

Patrick is the third son of Sir Ian Heathcoat Amory, 6th Baronet (cr UK, 1874), of Tiverton, Devon, by his wife the former Frances Louise Pomeroy, scion of the Viscounts Harberton, & Thierry is the daughter of the late Paul Kelaart and Mrs Anne Kelaart, of Nettlebed, Oxon.

Thierry Heathcoat Amory is a childhood friend of HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, who attended the Heathcoat Amory marriage in 2012. Michael Middleton, father of the duchess, gave the bride away.

Henry Douglas Hungerford Compton, styled Baron Wilmington [born 2018]

Emilia Jasmine G. Compton, styled Countess Compton [born 1979], wife of Daniel Bingham Compton, styled Earl Compton [born 16 January, 1973], gave birth in 2018 to a son and heir, Henry Douglas Hungerford, styled Baron Wilmington.

Countess Compton is a daughter of [John] Patrick Hungerford, by his wife the former Gabriele Bagusat.

Earl Compton is the son and heir of the 7th Marquess of Northampton [born 2 Apr, 1946], of Castle Ashby and Compton Wynyates, by the first of his six wives, Baroness Henriette Luisa Maria Bentinck.

Henry is Lord Compton's third child. He has two daughters, Lady Anastasia and Lady Theodora, from his first marriage in 2001, to [Elizabeth] Lucy Cardozo, daughter of Lieutenant-Col Benedict Cardozo.

Mary Countess of Gainsborough 1925-2018

-.Mary Countess of Gainsborough, who died 30 December, 2018, aged 93, was the widow of the 5th Earl of Gainsborough (1923-2009), of Exton, Leicestershire, and was a scion of the Barons Mowbray, Segrave & Stourton.

She was born Mary Stourton, 24 Sept, 1925, a daughter of Maj the Hon John Stourton (1899-1992), byh his first wife the former Kathleen Alice Gunther; & she was a granddaughter of the 24th Baron Mowbray.

She married 23 July, 1947, Anthony Gerard Edward Noel, 6th Earl of Gainsborough, a descendant of King William IV and the actress Dorothea Jordan. He died 29 December, 2009.

The countess was mother of eight children, including the 7th Earl, born in 1950, and a daughter Lady Juliana, who married the 5th Earl of Liverpool.

_. Jonathan Martin Edwin Sandys, who died 29 December, 2018, in a London hospital, was a great-grandson of the Rt Hon Winston Churchill, KG, Prime Minister 1940-45, and 1951-55.

He was born in 1975 a son of the Hon Julian George Winston Sandys, QC (1936-97), by his wife the former Elisabeth Jane Martin (b 1943), and was a grandson of the Rt Hon Duncan Sandys, life peer as Baron Duncan-Sandys (1908-87), by his first wife Diana Spencer-Churchill (1909-63), daughter of Sir Winston Churchill by his wife the former Clementine Hozier.


Jonathan Sandys was married his American wife Sara, and settled in Houston, Texas, and leaves a widow and two children.

Professor Sir Peter Swinnerton-Dyer, 16th Baronet, KBE 1927-2018

_. Professor Sir Peter Swinnerton-Dyer, 16th Baronet, KBE, FRS, Chief Executive of the Universities Funding Council 1989-91; academic; sometime Master of St Catharine's College, Cambridge, died 26 December, 2018, aged 91.

Henry Peter Francis Swinnerton-Dyer was born 2 Aug, 1927, son of Sir Leonard Swinnerton Dyer, 15th Bt, by his wife the former Barbara Brackenbury (died 1990), daughter of Hereward Brackenbury, CBE; succeeded to the baronetcy (created in 1678) on his father's demise, 1975.

Sir Peter married 1983, Dr Harriet Crawford, archaeologist, the elder dau of the Rt Hon Sir Patrick Browne, OBE, TD, PC, no issue of the marriage.

Sir Peter was appointed KBE in 1987. FRS, 1967.

The baronetcy now passes to a distant kinsman, David Dyer-Bennett (born 1954), of Minneapolis, United States, descended from the third son of the 9th baronet.

Sir Hew Hamilton-Dalrymple, GCVO, 10th Baronet 1926-2018

_. Sir Hew Hamilton-Dalrymple, GCVO, 10th Baronet, late Major the Grenadier Guards and Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian, died 26 December, 2018, aged 92.

Hew Fleetwood Hamilton-Dalrymple was born 9 April, 1926, son of Sir Hew Clifford Hamilton-Dalrymple, 9th Baronet (1889-1959), by his wife the former Dorothea Dyce Nicol Thorne (1893-1979); married 1954, the Lady Anne-Louise Mary Keppel (1932-2017), daughter of the 9th Earl of Albemarle (1882-1979) by his second wife the former Diana Cicely Grove (1909-2009).

Sir Hew is survived by four sons.

He served as Captain General and Gold Stick, Queen's Body Guard for Scotland (Royal Company of Archers); appointed CVO (1974), KCVO (1985), and GCVO (2001). He was Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian  1987-2001.

Sir Hew is succeeded by his eldest son, Hew Richard Hamilton-Dalrymple, who was born 3 September, 1955.

The funeral Mass takes place at the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, North Berwick, 4 January, 2019.

_. The Baroness St Henens, who died in London, 26 December, 2018, aged 66, was the wife of Richard Francis Hughes-Young, 2nd Baron Saint Helens (born 1945).

The former Emma Rosemary Lyle, she married 22 Sept, 1983, as the then Mrs Emma Talbot-Smith, the Baron St Helens, who had succeeded his father, 27 Dec, 1980.

Lady St Helens is survived by her husband and by a son, Henry, and a daughter, Lara.

_. The 3rd Baron Tryon, OBE, DL, died at his home in Wiltshire, 22 December, 2018. He was 78.

Anthony George Merrik Tryon was born 26 May, 1940, son of the 2nd Baron Tryon, PC, GCVO, KCB, DSO (1906-76), by his wife the former Etheldreda Josephine Burrell (1909-2002), scion of the Burrell baronets; he married 1973, Dale Elizabeth Harper (1948-97), daughter of Henry Preston Barrington (Barry) Harper (1909-86), of Melbourne, Australia, by his wife the former Jean Irene McMurray-Wallace, by whom he had two sons and two daughters.

Lord Tryon was educated at Eton, served as a Page of Honour to Queen Elizabeth II, 1954-56; Captain Wessex Yeomanry, 1972; Director of Lazard Brothers and Co, 1976-83; appointed OBE, 2001.

He is succeeded in his peerage (created in 1940), by his eldest son, the Hon Charles George Barrington Tryon, who was born 15 May, 1976.  Charles is a godson of the Prince of Wales and also served as a Page of Honour to the Queen.

She married 19 January, 1957, William Rippon Bissill (died 1983), by whom she had issue.

The funeral takes place at St Thomas Church, Aslockton, Nottinghamshire, 21 December, 2018.

Robin Helen (Bobbie) Parsons (died 2018)

_. Robin Helen (Bobbie) Parsons, who died 15th December, 2018, was the first wife of the late 10th Baron Braybrooke (1932-2017).

She was the former Robin Helen Brockhoff, daughter of Thomas Adolph Brockhoff, of Rose Bay, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and married 29 July, 1955 (div 1974) as his first wife, the then Hon Robin Henry Charles Neville, son of the 9th Baron Braybrooke (1897-1990).

Her husband succeeded as 10th Baron Braybrooke, 12 Feb 1990, and died 5 June, 2017. She married secondly, Christopher Parsons (deceased), of Bath, Avon.

Bobbie Parsons is survived by four daughters from her marriage to Lord Braybrooke. A fifth daughter predeceased her in 1980. Her second daughter, the Hon Caroline (Cazzy) Neville, married in 1995, the 19th Earl of Derby.

The funeral takes place at the Abbey Church of St Mary and St Melor, Amesbury, 8 January, 2019.

Lady Ulick Browne (died 2018)

_.  Lady Ulick Browne, who died 18 December, 2018, aged 84, was the mother of the 12th Marquess of Sligo.

She was the former Fiona Glenn, daughter of John Glenn, of East Grinstead, Surrey and married 1962, Capt Lord Ulick Browne (1915-79), a younger brother of the 10th Marquess of Sligo. Her husband was granted the rank and precedence of the younger son of a Marquess, in 1953.

Lady Ulick Browne is survived by her son Sebastian, who succeeded his cousin as 12th Marquess of Sligo, in 2014, and a daughter, Ulicia.

She was born in 1932, Mary Helena Bridgeman, scion of the Earls of Bradford, a daughter of the Hon Henry George Orlando Bridgeman (1882-1972), by his wife the former Joan Constable-Maxwell (died 1991), scion of the Lords Herries of Terregles.

She was a granddaughter of the 4th Earl of Bradford. She married Simon Kenyon-Slaney in 1960, by whom she had issue.

Maj Richard James Gillow Reynolds 1933-2018

Maj. Richard James Gillow Reynolds, late the Irish Guards, who died 13 December, 2018, aged 84, was descended from the Reynolds baronets. His home was Leighton Hall, near Carnforth, Lancashire.

He was born 16 January, 1933, elder son of James Roskell Reynolds [1904-82], and his wife the former Helen Mary Gillow [1907-1977], scion of the Gillow landed family of Leighton Hall, who succeeded to the Leighton Hall estate on the death of her father, Charles Richard Gillow [1871-1923].

He married 30 April, 1968, [Caroline] Susan [Suzi] Kenyon, DL, daughter of Geoffrey Terence Kenyon, of London, by whom he had issue, two daughters, Katherine [born 14 May, 1971], and Lucy [born 1975].

The younger daughter, Lucy, wife of Daniel Arthurs, succeeded to Leighton Hall.

Shirley Lady Codrington (died 2018)

_. Shirley Lady Codrington, who died 12 December, 2018, was the fourth, and final wife of Sir Simon Codrington, 3rd Baronet (1923-2005).

She was the former Shirley Ann Davis, born circa 1943, daughter of Percival Lionel Davis, and married 1989, Sir Simon Francis Bethell Codrington, 3rd Baronet. Her husband died 17 August, 2005, aged 82.
