Lavinia Margaret, Marchioness of Cholmondeley, mother of the hereditary Lord Great Chamberlain the Marquess of Cholmondeley, died 7 November, 2015. She was 94.
The Marchioness of Cholmondeley was the widow of Maj the 6th Marquess (Marquess UK, cr 1815), of Cholmondeley Castle, Malpas, Cheshire and Houghton Hall, near King's Lynn, Norfolk, who died in 1990.
She was the former Lavinia Margaret Leslie, daughter of Lt-Col John Leslie, DSO, MC (1888-1965) by his wife the former Margaret [Margot] Nanette Helen Gilliat (1891-1973), descended from the Skipwith baronets, and she married the future 6th Marquess of Cholmondeley in 1947. She leaves three daughters, Lady Rose, Lady Margot and Lady Caroline, and one son, David, 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, Joint Hereditary Lord Great Chamberlain of England (acting for the reign of Queen Elizabeth II).
