Charles is the son and heir of the 14th Viscount Massereene & Ferrard (b 3 Jun 1940), of Chilham Castle, Canterbury, Kent, by his wife the former Anne Denise Rowlandson, and Olga is the eldest daughter of Capt Cecil Lewis Dixon-Brown, RM, and Mrs Dixon-Brown, of Chepstow Villas, Kensington.

Robert Davies-Jones's mother is a  dau of Maj Richard Heysham GUBBINS-MOUNSEY-HEYSHAM (c1904-1960) of Castletown, Carlisle and Isabel Margaret (Peggy) d of Brig William Bradley Gossett BARNE CBE DSO (1880-1951) of Knightsbridge, London and Dorothy Isabel (1883-1973) d of Col Edward Donald MALCOLM of Poltalloch CB JP (1837-1930), sometime head of the Scots gentry family of that name.

Mary Alice Olga Sophia Jane Scrivener 1919-2014

_. Mary Alice Olga Sophia Jane Scrivener, who died 20 September, 2014, aged 95, was descended from the Royal House, the last surviving great-granddaughter of Prince George, 2nd Duke of Cambridge.

She was born in London, 4 June, 1919, a daughter of Robert Charlton Lane (1873-1943), by his wife the former Olga Mary Adelaide Fitzgeorge (1877-1928), who was a daughter of the Duke of Cambridge's illegitimate son, Sir Adolphus Fitzgeorge (1846-1922).

She married firstly, 1939 (div 1961) Edward Christopher Hohler (1917-97) s of Lt-Col Arthur Preston HOHLER DSO (1887-1919), sometime head of that gentry family of Long Crendon, and Laline Annette (1888-1969 , later Mrs Stanley Barry) d of William Harvey ASTELL (1860-96), sometime head of that gentry of Woodbury & Everton, and Hon Elizabeth Maria VEREKER (c1875-1958) d of 4th Viscount GORT, and had 2 sons and 2 daus. She married 2ndly 1962 Robert Stratford Scrivener (1919-2001) s of Sir Patrick Stratford SCRIVENER KCMG (1897-1966) and Margaret d of Walter DORLING.

Mrs Scrivener was the mother of four, Olga, Philippa, Frederick and Robert, grandmother of 13, great-grandmother of 13. Funeral (family flowers only) at St. Etheldreda’s, Fulham on Tuesday 7 October, 2014.

Deborah Duchess of Devonshire 1920-2014

_, Deborah Duchess of Devonshire, for decades chatelaine of Chatsworth House, and the last surviving of the celebrated Mitford sisters, died 24 September, 2014. She was 94.

She was born the Hon Deborah Vivien Freeman-Mitford, 21 March, 1920, sixth daughter of the 2nd Baron Redesdale (1878-1958), by his wife the former Sydney Bowles (who died 1963).

Her sisters were (i) Nancy, writer; (ii) Pamela; (iii) Diana (Lady Mosley, wife of the British fascist leader Sir Oswald Mosley); (iv) Unity, friend of Hitler; and (v) Jessica, writer.

'Debo' married, 19 Apr, 1941, the then Lord Andrew Cavendish, a younger son of the 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895-1950), by his wife the former Lady Mary Gascoyne-Cecil (d 1988), daughter of the 4th Marquess of Salisbury.

Her husband became heir to the Cavendish peerages and vast estates when his elder brother, William, Marquess of Hartington, was killed in action in 1944. Hartington had married Kathleen Kennedy, daughter of the US Ambassador to the Court of St James and a sister of the future US President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The marriage was childless.

Andrew Cavendish succeeded his father as 11th duke, 26 Nov, 1950, and died 3 May, 2004, aged 84.

Deborah Duchess of Devonshire is survived by one son, Peregrine, known as "Stoker" the 12th Duke of Devonshire, who was born in 1944, and by two daughters, Lady Emma Tennant and Lady Sophia Topley.

The funeral is expected to take place on the Chatsworth estate, Derbyshire.

Colonel Geoffrey Ernald Sparrow, MC 1923-2014

. Colonel Geoffrey Ernald Sparrow, MC, who died  20 July, 2014, aged 91, was a former High Sheriff of Cheshire, and deputy lieutenant of the county.

He was born 26 Jan, 1923, only son of Lieutenant~Colonel W.G.K. Sparrow, of Birtles Old Hall, Chelford, Cheshire; and married 24 Sept, 1949, Elisabeth Joan Wilbraham (b 12 Aug, 1928), scion of the Wilbrahams of Delamere, daughter of Maj Edward Jack Wilbraham, MC (b 18 Nov 1895), ADC to HRH Prince Arthur of Connaught, Gov Gen of South Africa (1924), by his wife the former Evelyn Martin. 

Colonel Sparrow is survived by his wife and by their three sons, Geoffrey, Justin and Piers,

_. Mark Fane de Salis, who was murdered ~ shot dead on a beach in Libya ~ circa 2 January, 2014, aged 48, was a scion of the Fane de Salis landed family, of Bourne House, formerly of Portnall Park.

The 8th Earl of Lisburne, DL 1918-2014

__, The Earl of Lisburne, DL, who died 2 September, 2014, aged 96, was the 8th Earl in the Peerage of Ireland (cr 1776).

John David Malet Vaughan was born 1 September, 1918, son of the 7th Earl (1892-1965), by his first wife the former Maria Isbael Regina Aspasia de Bittencourt (who died 1944), and was known by the courtesy title of Viscount Vaughan from birth until his father's death, 30 June, 1965.

Lord Lisburne married 4 Dec, 1943, Shelagh, 1st daughter of Timothy Alfred Macauley, of Montreal, by whom he had issue, three sons, David, Michael and John. The peerages now devolve upon his Lordship's eldest son, David John Francis Malet Vaughan, styled Viscount Vaughan, who was born 15 June, 1945.

Requiem Mass at St Peter's, Ludlow, 18 Sept, followed by funeral at St Afan's, Llanafan-y-Trawsgoed, Aberystwyth, 19 Sept.

Archbishop of Canterbury to be present at burial of his relative, Richard III

__.  The most senior Roman Catholic archbishop in England and Wales will take part in services marking the reburial of the remains of King Richard III.

The Diocese of Leicester said the Roman Catholic archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, will be present when the monarch is laid to rest in March, 2015.

But when the bones of the last Plantagenet king are laid to rest on March 26, 2015  the poignant and moving ceremony will have special significance for Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury. For Welby is directly descended from Richard III's brother, Edward IV.

The primate descends from Edward IV's daughter, Elizabeth of York, who married Henry Tudor, Richard III's arch enemy, who was victorious at the Battle of Bosworth, who lifted Richard's bloody crown from the battlefield.

The Archbishop of Canterbury is seventeen generations in descent from Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, and is an ancestral nephew of the unfortunate King Richard. 

The archbishop's royal genes have been passed down from Welby's mother, Jane, Lady Williams of Elvel.

Doris, Baroness Cromwell 1930-2014

 Doris, Baroness Cromwell, who died in 2014, was the widow of the 6th Baron Cromwell (1929-1982).

The Barony of Cromwell was created by Writ, 28 December, 1375, and spent 426 years in abeyance until 1923 when it was called out of abeyance in favour of the 6th Baron's grandfather.

Lady Cromwell was born Doris Vivian Penfold, the youngest daughter of Hugh de Lisle Penfold (1895-1977), of Milbourne Lane, Esher, Surrey, and a granddaughter of the Rev John Brookes Vernon Penfold (1864-1922), and his wife Maude Frances Carey (1865-1913), scion of that landed gentry family, formerly of La Ville-au-Roy, Guernsey.

She married 16 January, 1954, the then Hon David Godfrey Bewicke-Copley (born 29 May, 1929), son and heir of the 5th Baron Cromwell, DSO, MC, JP, DL (1893-1966), and his wife the former Freda Constance Cripps (who died 1979), only daughter of Maj Sir Frederick William Beresford Cripps DSO, of Ampney Park, Cirencester, co. Gloucester, by his wife Constance Agnes Wykeham MBE, 2nd dau. of Philip James Digby Wykeham, of Tythrop House, co. Oxford. Her husband succeeded his father as 6th Baron Cromwell, 21 October, 1966, and died 18 August, 1982.

Lady Cromwell leaves issue, two sons, Godfrey and Thomas, and two daughters, Anne and Davina. The elder son, Godfrey John Bewicke-Copley (born 4 March, 1960), is the 7th Baron Cromwell.

_. The Lord Brain, who died 15 August, 2014, aged 87, was the 2nd Baron (Peerage of the UK, cr 1962).

He was Christopher Langdon Brain, born 30 Aug, 1926, son of the 1st Baron by his wife the former Stella Langdon-Down (died 1993), and succeeded to the peerage on his father's demise, 29 Dec, 1966.

Lord Brain married 11 Apr, 1953, Susan Mary Morris, by whom he had 3 daughters, Nicola, Fiona and Naomi.

The peerage now passes to his younger brother, Prof the Hon Michael Cottrell Brain, who was born 6 Aug, 1928.
