Mary Duchess of Roxburghe 1915-2014

Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe, who died 2 July, 2014, aged 99, was the first wife of the late George, 9th Duke of Roxburghe (1913-74), and was a scion of the extinct Marquesses of Crewe.

The Duchess was a patron of the Royal Ballet.

She was born Lady Mary Evelyn Crewe-Milnes (23 March, 1915), youngest daughter of the 1st Marquess of Crewe, KG, PC (1858-1945), by his second wife, the former Lady Margaret Primrose (1881-1967), daughter of the 5th Earl of Rosebery.

She married 24 Oct, 1935 (div 1953), the 9th Duke of Roxburghe. No issue. The Duchess held the Queen's canopy at the Coronation of King George VI, 12 May, 1937, and must be one of the last surviving of those in Westmister Abbey on that day.
