 (Mary) Rosalind Frances Felicia Pollock , who died 28 March, 2020, aged 88, was a scion of the Pollock baronets and a goddaughter of Queen Mary.

She was born 24 April, 1931, daughter of the Rt Rev Bertram Pollock, KCVO (1863-1943), sometime Bishop of Borwich, by his wife the former Joan Florence Helen Ryder (1897-1986), scion of the Earls of Harrowby. She was unmarried.

 __. The Hon Mrs Charles Fellowes [nee Victoria Mills, born 1987], wife of the Hon Charles Henry Fellowes (born 1986), scion of the Barons De Ramsey, gave birth to a son, Jack, in March, 2020.

Charles is the son of the 4th Baron De Ramsey (b 1942) of Abbots Ripton, Cambridgeshire, by his second wife, the former Alison Mary Birkmyre (b 1954), scion of the Birkmyre baronets.

Victoria Fellowes is a daughter of Mr Graham A. Mills, of Guildford, Surrey, by his wife the former Jean L. Spence.

Edmund John William Hugh Ramsay-Fairfax-Lucy was born 4 May, 1945, son of Sir Brian Fulke Cameron Ramsay-Fairfax-Lucy, 5th Baronet [1898-1974], by his wife the former Hon Alice Caroline Helen Buchan [died 1993], daughter of author of 'The 39 Steps' John Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir [1875-1940].

Edmund succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death, 21 January, 1974. He married firstly, 1974 [divorced] Sylvia, daughter of Graeme Ogden, of The Old Manor, Rudge, Somerset; married 2ndly, 1986 [divorced 1989], writer Lady Lucinda Lambton [born 10 May, 1943], daughter of Antony Lambton, Viscount Lambton [the disclaimed 6th Earl of Durham] [1922-2006]; married 3rdly, 1994, Erica Everina Penelope, daughter of Simon Folliott Warren Thomas Barton Loane, of Crocknacrieve, Co Fermanagh.

Sir Edmund leaves issue, two sons from his third marriage, Patrick and John.

The baronetcy is inherited by his elder son, Patrick Samuel Thomas Fulke Ramsay-Fairfax-Lucy [born 1995].

Her husband served as Assistant Keeper of the Privy Purse and Treasurer to HM The Queen (1975–85), Deputy Keeper of the Privy Purse and Treasurer to HM The Queen (1985–87), Keeper of the Privy Purse and Treasurer to HM The Queen (1988–96), since when Extra Equerry to HM The Queen (1996–present).

The former [Monica] Juliet Calvert, was born 3 February, 1939, scion of a landed gentry family, the eldest of five daughters of Major Robert Henry Calvert, of Picts House, Horsham, Sussex, by his wife the former Monica Buxton, scion of the Buxton baronets.

Juliet Calvert was a kinswoman of HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, who is of Calvert descent. [The duchess's great grandmother, Lady Ashcombe, wife of of the 2nd Baron Ashcombe was nee Maud Calvert.]

She married 1stly, 23 June, 1964, Major John Morrogh Bernard, the Irish Guards, who died as the result of a skiing accident in Austria, 11 March, 1968; married 2ndly, 16 June, 1969, the then Shane Gabriel Basil Blewitt [born 25 March, 1935], son of Colonel Basil Blewitt, of Willaston, Cheshire.

Lady Blewitt leaves a son Alexander and a daughter Katherine from her first marriage, and a son, Piers, and daughter, Davina from her second marriage.

Born 20 June, 1938, as Teresa Mary Head, daughter of the then Antony Henry Head [1906-83], who was Conservative MP for Carshalton, 1945-60, and raised to the peerage as Viscount Head, of Throope, County Wilts, 1960, by his wife the former Lady Dorothea Louise Ashley-Cooper [1907-87]. daughter of the 9th Earl of Shaftesbury [1869-1961].

She married 29 July, 1972, Richard Deacon Haddon, Lt, RN [1938-2008], an assistant master at Eton College, son of Herbert Deacon Haddon [1909-2000], by his wife the former Phyllis Mary Pyke [1908-2003].

She leaves a son, Edward and a daughter Alice, and was predeceased by a son, Joseph.

George Bernard Noel Maitland-Makgill-Crichton [born 2020]

Tom, descended from the 6th Earl of Lauderdale, is a son of Lieutenant-Col Andrew James Maitland-Makgill-Crichton [born 1953], by his wife the former Karen Gail Smith.

Alice is a daughter of Dominic David Noel Miles Charles Kelly [born 1953], by his wife the former Miranda Macklin. Alice is a direct descendant of the Dukes of Norfolk, and is in remainder to the ancient Barony of Beaumont, currently in the possession of the 18th Duke of Norfolk.

Rt Hon James Edward Ramsden, PC 1923-2020

_. The Rt Hon James Ramsden, PC, who died 29 March, 2020, aged 96, was a former Conservative MP for Harrogate. He held the distinction of being the last Secretary of State for War, and longest serving member of the Privy Council after the Duke of Edinburgh.

His home was at Old Sleningford Hall, near Ripon, North Yorkshire.

Mr Ramsden served as MP for Harrogate, 1954-74, and he served under Harold Macmillan as Under-Secretary of State and Financial Secretary for War from 1960 to 1963 and under Sir Alec Douglas-Home as Secretary of State for War from 1963 to 1964. At the April 1964 reshuffle, the former cabinet positions of First Lord of the Admiralty and Secretary of State for Air, along with Ramsden's post, were incorporated into an expanded Ministry of Defence, under the leadership of the new position of Secretary of State for Defence.

Ramsden was appointed Minister of State for the Army at the Ministry of Defence, a post he held until Sir Alec Douglas-Home's government fell in October 1964. He was sworn of the Privy Council in 1963. His successor in the Harrogate constituency was Robert Banks.

He was born at Liverpool,  1 Nov, 1923, son of Capt Edward Ramsden, MC, of Breckamore Hall, near Ripon, by his wife the former Geraldine Wilson [1888-1976]; and married 25 June, 1949, Juliet Ponsonby [1923-2019], scion of the Ponsonby baronets, daughter of Colonel Sir Charles Ponsonby, 1st Baronet [1879-1976], by his wife the former Hon Winifred Marian Gibbs [died 1984], daughter of the 1st Baron Hunsdon [1854-1935].

Mrs Juliet Ramsden died 21 November, 2019, aged 96.

James Ramsden leaves issue, three sons Thomas, George and Richard, and a daughter, Emma. He was predeceased by his youner daughter, the artist Charlotte Cheverton, who died as the result of a motoring accident in 1991.

Major-Gen The 2nd Baron Alvingham, CBE, DL 1926-2020

_. Major-General The Lord Alvingham, CBE, DL, 2nd Baron, died 29 March, 2020. He was 93.

Robert Guy Eardley Yerburgh was born 16 December, 1926, son of the then Robert Daniel Thwaites Yerburgh [1889-1955], Conservative MP for South Dorset, 1922-29, created a peer, in June, 1929, as Baron Alvingham, of Woodfold, in the County Palatine of Lancaster.

Robert's mother, Dorothea, died a few months after his birth, in February, 1927, aged 44.

He succeeded his father as 2nd Baron Alvingham, 27 November, 1955. He served in the Coldstream Guards retiring in 1981 as a Major-General, and Director of Army Quartering.

Lord Alvingham married 31 March, 1952, Beryl Elliott Williams, daughter of William David Williams, of Hindhead, Surrey, by whom he had issue, a son, Robert, and a daughter, Susannah. The son, Capt the Hon Robert Richard Guy Yerburgh, who was born 10 Dec, 1956, now succeeds as 3rd Baron Alvingham.

He was born 3 April, 1932, a son of Professor Victor Wilkinson Dix, FRCS [1899-1992], by his wife the former Nanny Uarda Elsie Vernon [1901-1998], scion of the Vernon baronets; and married 11 April, 1964, Kristina Mary Sidley, daughter of John Charles Sidley, OBE [1884-1946], by his wife the former Phyllis Mary Lewis [1900-79], by whom he had three daughters,  Caroline, Philippa and Rosemary.

Brenda Brufal De Melgarejo, Marquesa de Lendinez [died 2020]

_. Brenda Helen Brufal de Melgarejo, Marquesa de Lendinez, who died at Fleet, 28 March, 2020, aged 80, was the widow of Michael Brufal, Marques de Lendinez, a Gibraltarian, the hereditary grand inquisitor of Cordoba.

Her husband was a proud Gibraltarian who opposed Spanish attempts to cajole Britain into handing over the colony. He died in 2018.

The Marquesa is survived by a son, Jonathan, and a daughter, Tabitha.

A private family cremation takes place in the UK on 16 April. A memorial service and burial in Gibraltar will take place later in the year.

Alden Peter Theodore Mountbatten Hooper [born 2020]

The Lady Alexandra Victoria Edwina Diana Hooper (b 5 December, 1982) wife of Thomas Edward Huntly Hooper [born 1979], and scion of the Earls Mountbatten of Burma, gave birth to a son, Alden Peter Theodore Mountbatten, 27 March, 2020, a brother for Inigo Norton Sebastian Mountbatten, who was born 21 December, 2017.

Lady Alexandra is the elder but only surviving daughter of the 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma (b 1947) of Broadlands, Hampshire, by his wife the former Penelope Meredith Eastwood (b 1953).

Thomas Hooper is a son of Peter Huntly Hooper, by his wife the former Patricia Bucknill.

The Hoopers married at Romsey Abbey, 25 June, 2016. HRH The Prince of Wales gave the bride in marriage.

_. The 13th Earl of Galloway, Scottish peer, died 27 March, 2020. He was 91.

Randolph Keith Reginald Stewart was born 14 October, 1928, son of the 12th Earl of Galloway [1892-1978], landowner, by his wife the former Philippa Fendall Wendell [died 22 Feb, 1974], daughter of Jacob Wendell, of New York.

Randolph, known by the courtesy title of Lord Garlies from his birth, was dogged by mental issues throughout his life. He married, 17 October, 1975, Mrs May Lily Budge [who died 29 Oct, 1999], daughter of Andrew Miller, of Duns, Berwickshire. The marriage was seen by his family as an unsuitable match, and his father disinherited his son and heir.

Randolph, Lord Garlies, succeeded his father, 13 June, 1978, as 13th Earl of Galloway [Peerage of Scotland cr 1623], Lord Garlies [Peerage of Scotland, cr 1607], Baron Stewart of Garlies [Peerage of GB, cr 1796]; the 12th Baronet, of 'Corsewell' [cr 1627], and 10th Baronet, of 'Burray' [cr 1687].

Lord Galloway is succeeded in all his honours by his second cousin once removed, Andrew Clyde Stewart [born 13 March, 1949], son of Maj Alexander David Stewart, MBE [1914-85], by his wife the former Daphne Marion Bonsor, daughter of Sir Reginald Bonsor, 2nd Bt.

_. Lord Garel-Jones, PC, life baron, former Conservative MP and British government minister, died 24 March, 2020, aged 79.

[William Armand Thomas] Tristan Garel-Jones was born 28 February, 1941, son of Bernard Garel-Jones and his wife Meriel.

He was elected Conservative MP for Watford at the General Election, May, 1979. In the Whips office during the Thatcher administration he was Vice-Chamberlain of the Household, 1986-88, Comptroller of the Household, 1988-89, and Treasurer of the Household, 1989-90, and in John Major's administration he was Minister for Europe, 1990-93.

On leaving the House of Commons in 1997 he was created a life peer taking the title Baron Garel-Jones, of Watford in the County of Hertfordshire.

Lord Garel-Jones married in 1966, Catalina Garrigues, daughter of Mariano Garrigues, by whom he had four sons and a daughter.

Lady Garel-Jones's sister, Pilar Garrigues y Carcer, married in 1977, Lochain Alexander Spearman, scion of the Spearman baronets, and their son [Alexander] James Spearman [b 1984], married 16 Aug, 2014, Princess Amelia of Orleans-Braganza [b 1984].

Conscious of his distinguished forebears, Alexander Guthrie took his role as clan chief seriously, assiduously attending clan Guthrie gatherings as far afield as America. He was wont to turn up at formal occasions in Rome, where he lived, clad in full clan regalia. On more than one occasion he had to explain to the local carabinieri why it was that he was carrying a large sword.

He was born 3 October, 1967, the son of Conte Leonardo Bedini-Jacobini, by his wife the former Loetitia Dawn Phillips [b 26 Feb, 1945- d 1978]. Helen Bogle Hamilton, who died 3 March, 2020, at Whitehope, Innerleithen, aged 90, was a descendant of Vereker Viscounts Gort.

Lord Aberdeen, of the House of Formartine, Aberdeenshire, was also Earl of Aberdeen, Earl of Haddo, Viscount Formantine, Viscount Gordon, Lord Haddo, and the 15th baronet.

Alexander George Gordon was born 31 March, 1955, son of the 6th Marquess of Aberdeen [1920-2002], by his wife the former Anne Barry [1924-2007], scion of the Barry baronets, and succeeded to the family honours on his father's demise, 19 August, 2002.

He married 30 May, 1981, Joanna Clodagh Houldsworth, daughter of Maj Ian George Henry Houldsworth, by whom he had issue, three sons, George, Sam and Charles, and a daughter, Anna.

The eldest son, George Ian Alastair Gordon, styled Earl of Haddo [born 4 May, 1983], succeeds as 8th Marquess.

William is a great-grandson of Sir Alan Hilary Moore, 2nd Baronet [1882-1959]. The baronetcy was created for Sir Alan's father, the physician Norman Moore, who was President of the Royal College of Physicians 1918-22, and created a baronet in 1919.

Rosalind Jean Mackworth, CBE 1928-2020

_. Rosalind Jean Mackworth, CBE, solicitor, died 19 February, 2020, aged 91.

Rosalind Mackworth became the first Commissioner for the Social Fund in Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 1985 and served until 1993, being appointed CBE.

She had been a Director of Riverside Health Authority, the Vice President of the European Union of Women and a long serving member of the Value Added Tax Tribunals.

She was a daughter of the Rev Albert Walters [1889-1947], vicar of Wychbold, Worcestershire, by his wife the former Alma Jennie Richards [1899-1984]; married 1960, Richard Charles Audley Mackworth [1924-2014], scion of the Mackworth baronets, son of Air Vice-Marshal Philip Herbert Mackworth, CB, CBE, DFS [1897-1958], by his wife the former Winifred Kathleen June Moss [d 1967], by whom she had 2 daughters, Julia and Victoria.

The funeral takes place at Christchurch, Little Drayton, 20 March, 2020.

He married 1993 [div], Amanda Gabriella Mary [born 8 Sept, 1959], former wife of Mark Edmond Garthwaite, and daughter of Edward Willoughby Trafford [1924-2003], by his wife the former June Imelda Harding [1930-2010], by whom he had issue, two daughters, Imogen [born 1994], and Emily [Millie] [born 1996]. He was also the step-father to Alice Garthwaite, later Agnew [born 1987].

Fred Agnew was a grandson of Sir John Stuart Agnew, 3rd Baronet [1879-1957]. His wife Amanda was a granddaughter of Maj Sigismund William Joseph Trafford [1883-1953], by his wife the former Lady Elizabeth Constance Mary Bertie [1895-1987], daughter of the 7th Earl of Abingdon [1836-1928].


Harry Francis Redvers Fortescue [born 2020]
