Richard Quintin Hoare, OBE, DL [1943-2020]

_. Richard Quintin Hoare, OBE, DL, who died 24 March, 2020, was a scion of the landed gentry family of that name, founders, in 1672, of the eponymous private bank. He was 77.

Richard Hoare was a member of the board of C. Hoare & Co, the UK's oldest bank, standing down in 2017.

In 1983 he founded the Bulldog Trust to provide support and advice for charities facing immediate financial difficulties, and was awarded the OBE in 2006.

Richard Hoare [always known as Tigger], was born 30 January, 1943, a son of Lieutenant-Col Quintin Vincent Hoare, OBE, of Tangier House, Wootton St Lawrence, Hampshire, by his first wife the former Lucy Florence Selwyn.

He married 19 Oct, 1970, his second cousin, the Hon Frances Evelyn Hogg, JP, High Sheriff of Hampshire 2003-4 [born 11 Nov, 1949], second daughter of the 2nd Viscount Hailsham [disclaimed], later the Baron Hailsham of St Marylebone, KG, CH, PC, QC [1907-2001], sometime Lord High Chancellor of Gt Britain, by whom he had issue, 2 sons, Alexander and Charles, and a daughter, Elizabeth.
