Rosie Jeanne Burke Roche 2005-2025

Rosie Jeanne Burke Roche, who committed suicide, 14 July, 2025, aged 20, was a scion of the Barons Fermoy, and a second cousin of the Prince of Wales and Duke of Sussex.

She was born 21 June, 2005, the eldest child of the Hon (Edmund) Hugh Burke Roche (born 5 February, 1972), and his wife the former Phillipa Kate Victoria Long, and was a granddaughter of the 5th Baron Fermoy (1939-1984). She was a maternal granddaughter of Derek F.D. Long (born 1941), and his wife the former Elizabeth Rae McGregor (born 1945), of Goldsborough, North Yorkshire.

Miss Roche was found dead by her mother and sister on 14 July 2025 - with a firearm laying near to her body at the family home in Norton, near Malmesbury, Wiltshire. During an inquest hearing at Wiltshire and Swindon coroner’s court, area coroner Grant Davies said police “have deemed the death as non-suspicious and there was no third-party involvement”. Rosie was working towards obtaining a degree in English Literature at Durham University. A spokeswoman said she “will be sorely missed”.

The inquest at Wiltshire and Swindon coroner's court was adjourned until October 2025.

Rosie's grandfather, the 5th Baron Fermoy, the uncle of Diana, Princess of Wales, shot himself in August, 1984. He was 45 years old. A businessman and former steeplechase jockey, Lord Fermoy was found dead at his home, Eddington House in Hungerford, Berkshire. A police spokesman said Lord Fermoy had been suffering from depression for a long time.
