Lady Byatt, who died 10 July, 2025, aged 96, was the widow of Sir Hugh Campbell Byatt, KCVO, CMG (1927-2011).
She was the former Fiona Mary Mackenzie Coats, born 25 February, 1929, scion of the Coats baronets, daughter of Ian Pountney Coats (1901-1980), and his wife the former Hilda May Latta (1899-1997); and married 19 June, 1954, Hugh Campbell Byatt (born 27 Aug, 1927), the diplomat, son of Sir Horace Byatt, GCMG (1875-1933), by his wife the former Olga Margaret Campbell (1891-1943).
Hugh Byatt was Deputy high commissioner Nairobi, 1977—1978. Ambassador to Angola, 1978—1981, to Sao Tome, 1980—1981, and to Portugal, 1981—1986. He was appointed CMG in 1979, KCVO in 1985, and died 16 February, 2011, having had issue, three children, Lorne, Lucy and Duncan.
