Capt Walter Edward Browning Godsal, RN 1924-2025

Capt Walter Edward Browning Godsal, RN, died 15 July, 2025. He was 100. He was a scion of that landed gentry family of Iscoyd Park, Salop.

He was probably the last survivors of the last major surface action of the Second World War in the Far East... he helped sink the Haguro in the last major surface battle of the war in the Far East ...

As a midshipman on the foc’s’le of Verulam he counted the destroyer’s torpedoes running towards the Japanese heavy cruiser Haguro

He was born 3 December, 1924, younger son of Lieutenant-Colonel Philip Godsal, MC (1880-1963), head of that family, and his wife the former Violet Mary Browning (1890-1978).

He married 1970, Pamela Anne de Lisle Caulfeild (1924-2004), former wife of his elder brother, Philip, and daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Wilmot Smyth Caulfeild, MC (1887-1980), and his 1st wife the former Meredith de Lisle John (1899-1924). No issue of the marriage.
