Burkitt by his wife the former Tracey Sykes, and Harry Moore-Gwyn is son and heir of David Moore-Gwyn (b 1947), head of the family, who was a grandson of the 2nd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu, and thus descended from Charles II, via his bastard son, the Duke of Monmouth, and the Dukes of Buccleuch, &c.

_. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were present at the marriage on Saturday 22 September, 2018, at St Andrew's Episcopal Church, Letheringsett, Norfolk, between Mr Robert A.F. Snuggs and Miss Sophie Louise Mary Carter (born 14 Oct, 1982).

The bride is a daughter of Mr Robert George Russell Carter (born 1953), of Letheringsett, Norfolk, by his wife the former Charlotte Miller. Mr Snuggs is the son of Mr & Mrs Philip Snuggs, of Pen Selwood, Somerset.

The bride, a close friend of the Duchess of Cambridge since their school days is a godmother of Princess Charlotte, who was a bridesmaid. Prince George was a page boy.

Hon Hugh Bingham 1939-2018

_. The Hon Hugh Bingham, who died in South Africa in July, 2018, aged 78, was a scion of the Earls of Lucan, a son of the 6th Earl and younger brother of the 7th Earl, who disappeared in 1974 following the murder of his children's nanny.

Hugh Bingham was born 24 April, 1939, second son of the 6th Earl of Lucan, MC (1898-1964), by his wife the former Kaitlin Elizabeth Anne Dawson (1900-85), scion of the Earls of Dartrey (Extinct). His elder brother, Richard John, the 7th Earl, born in 1934, disappeared on 7 Nov, 1974, following the murder of nanny Sandra Rivett.

Mr Bingham, a bachelor, who lived in a Johannesburg suburb, worked for the Theosophical Society. He was heir presumptive to the Lucan peerages, held by his nephew, George.

Lord Ivar Mountbatten marries James Coyle

_. Lord Ivar Mountbatten, 55 year-old cousin of the Queen has married his male partner, James Coyle.

Lord Ivar married in the presence of his first wife, Penny, and his three daughters, Ella, Alexandra and Louise Mountbatten, in Devon, on 22 September, 2018.

 Lord Ivar Alexander Michael Mountbatten (born 9 March, 1963), is perhaps the first of Queen Victoria's descendants to enter into a same-sex marriage.

Lord Ivar is the second son of the 3rd Marquess of Milford Haven (1919-70), who was best man for Prince Philip when he married the then Princess Elizabeth in 1947. The 3rd Marquess, who collapsed and died in a London railway station, aged 51, married as his second wife, Janet Mercedes Bryce, who is Lord Ivar's mother.

Lord Ivar's great-grandfather, Prince Louis of Battenberg, was created Marquess of Milford Haven in 1917 on the renunciation of German styles and titles by the family of King George V. The 1st Marquess was the father of Prince Philip's mother, Alice, Princess Andrew of Greece, and was father of Lord Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma.

Lord Ivar married firstly, in 1994, in the presence of Princess Margaret, and other royals, Penelope Anne Vere Thompson (b 1966), daughter of Colin Thompson, and Mrs Rosemary Walker.

Major Sir Eric Yarrow, MBE, 3rd Baronet 1920-2018

_. Major Sir Eric Yarrow, 3rd Baronet, died 22 September, 2018. He was 98.

Sir Eric was a member of the Yarrow shipbuilding family, and was Managing Director of Yarrow & Co 1958-67, Chairman 1962-85, and President 1985-87; member of Lloyd's Register of Shipping, &c.

Eric Grant Yarrow was born 23 April, 1920, and succeeded his father, Sir Harold Yarrow, GBE, 2nd Bt, in 1962.

Yarrow, of Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire, was President of the Burma Star Association, Scottish Area from 1990, and had served in Burma 1942-5, with the Royal Engineers (Major); awarded the MBE (Military) 1946.

He married firstly, 1951, Rosemary AnneYoung (who died in 1957), married 2ndly, 1959 (div 1975) Annette Elizabeth Francoise Steven; married 3rdly, 1982, Mrs Caroline Rosa Joan Botting (nee Masters).

Sir Eric leaves three sons from his second marriage, twins Norman and Peter, born in 1960, and a son David born in 1966.
He was predeceased by his only son from his first marriage, Richard, born in 1953, who died in 1987.

The baronetcy, created in 1916, passes to his grandson, Ross Yarrow, who was born in 1985.

Lady Sam Gordon (nee Tatham), wife of the Lord Sam Gordon, scion of the Marquesses of Aberdeen & Temair, gave birth to a daughter, Lara Sophie Bebe, 21 September, 2018, a sister for Bertie, who was born 30 Aug, 2016.

Lord Sam Dudley Gordon (b 1985), is the second son of the 7th Marquess of Aberdeen & Temair (b 31 Mar, 1955), of Haddo, Aberdeenshire, and the Marchioness of Aberdeen & Temair (nee Joanna Clodagh Houldsworth. descended from the Earls of Morton).

Lady Sam is the former Isobel R. Tatham, daughter of Mr & Mrs Simon Tatham, of Bath, Somerset.

Rev Canon William Gibbs 1931-2018

The Rev Canon  William Gilbert Gibbs, who died 20 September, 2018, aged 87, was the brother-in-law of the 7th Earl of Lucan.

He was born 7 April, 1931, scion of the Barons Aldenham & Hunsdon, son of Lt-Col Ralph Crawley-Boevey Gibbs (1891-1957) by his wife the former Dorothy Elizabeth Houldsworth (1894-1951); married 17 June, 1958, the Lady Sarah Bingham (b 1936), daughter of the 6th Earl of Lucan (1898-1964) by his wife Kaitlin, by whom he had issue, a son, Oliver, and three daughters, Marcia, Selina & Madeleine.

His brother-in-law was the elusive 7th Earl of Lucan, missing since the murder of his children’s nanny in November, 1974.

Mr Gibbs served in the Coldstream Guards, was ordained in 1958, and spent many years as a priest at St George’s, Campden Hill, London, and Guilsborough with Hollowell, Northamptonshire.

The funeral takes place at St Etheldreda’s Church, Guilsborough, 10 Oct, 2018.

_. Lady Mogg, who died 20 September, 2018, on her 104th birthday, was the widow of General Sir John Mogg, GCB, CBE, DSO (1913-2001), and was a scion of the Viscounts Molesworth.

Lady Mogg was a kinswoman of HRH The Countess of Wessex, granddaughter of a Molesworth. She was born 20 Sept, 1914, as Cecilia Margaret Molesworth, daughter of the Rev John Hilton Molesworth (1856-1921), by his wife the former Everilda Hamer Rawdon (d. 1928); and married in 1939, (Herbert) John Mogg, who died 28 Oct, 2001, leaving three sons, Nigel, Patrick and Timothy.

"Prince" Louis Nicholas Anthony Doimi de Frankopan Subic Zrinski 1939-2018

_. Prince Louis Doimi de Frankopan Subic Zrinski, controversial member of a Croatian noble family, and father-in-law of Lord Nicholas Windsor, died in Zagreb, 18 September, 2018. He was 79.

He was born Louis Doimi de Lupis, in 1939, later controversially added the names of Šubić, Zrinski and Frankopan under British Civil law and the title of Prince, having previously adopted the title of Count. While the Doimi de Lupis family were granted a knighthood by Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1855 and 1865, their right to use the names of several Croatian medieval noble families and the title of Prince (a royal title never held by any of the mentioned families, who were in Latin, Croatian, Hungarian and Italian historical documents styled as Counts of Bribir (Šubić), Counts of Zrin (Zrinski) and Counts of Krk (Frankopan) has been highly disputed. The Croatian Nobility Association expelled the Doimi de Lupis family from their membership calling the name reverting a falsification while John Kennedy, editor of directory of Europe's royalty and nobility Almanach de Gotha, stated that the use of the name Frankopan by Doimi de Lupis family is "more aspirational than inherited".

He married the former Ingrid Detter (born 1936), by whom he had three sons, Peter, Nicholas and Lawrence, and two daughters, Paola and Christina. His elder daughter married in 2006, the Lord Nicholas Charles Edward Jonathan Windsor (b 1970), second son of HRH The Duke of Kent, a cousin of the Queen.

Lady Elizabeth Georgiana Alice Cavendish, LVO 1926-2018

_. The Lady Elizabeth Georgiana Alice Cavendish, LVO, who has died aged 92, was a Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, and was the mistress, companion and carer of the poet Sir John Betjeman.

She was born 24 April, 1926, just three days younger than the Queen, and was a childhood friend of the then Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Rose. She was the second, but eldest surviving daughter of the 10th Duke of Devonshire, KG (1895-1950), by his wife the former Lady Mary Gascoyne-Cecil, GCVO (1895-1988), who served the Queen as Mistress of the Robes (senior Lady-in-Waiting) from the Coronation in 1953 until 1966.

Her brother, Andrew, was 11th Duke of Devonshire, KG, who died in 2004. Another brother, William, Marquess of Hartington, married Kathleen Kennedy, sister of the future US President, and was killed in the Second World War. A younger sister, Lady Anne Tree, died in 2010.

Lady Elizabeth was appointed an Exta Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Margaret in 1960, and it was at Lady Elizabeth's Chelsea home in 1958 that the Princess met the young photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones, who two years later became her husband.

__. Rosemary Ross Skinner, who died 17 September, 2018, was the first wife of Lt-Cdr Harry John Ross Skinner, RNR (b 1932), head of that landed gentry family.

Ashley Louis David Hicks (born 18 July, 1963), only son of the late David Nightingale Hicks by his wife the former Lady Pamela Carmen Louise Mountbatten (born 19 Apr, 1929), scion of the Earls Mountbatten of Burma (Peerage of the UK, cr 1947), wed in September, 2015, Katalina (Kata) Sharkey de Solis [born Kathryn Anne Sharkey, 31 Dec, 1981, in Texas, daughter of Thomas William Sharkey, of Houston, Texas, by his wife the former Rosalie Solis].
It was Mr Hick's second marriage. He married firstly, in 1990,Allegra Marina Tondato, by whom he has issue. His second bride to be is described in the Daily Mail as an "American fashionista" 17 years his junior. 

Ashley Hicks is a godson of the late King of Sweden and of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Kata Hicks recently announced that she was expecting her second child. A son, Caspar Donald, was born in January this year.

Daughter of John Lionel Richards Fane (1884-1945), by his wife the former Barbara Kathleen Wallace, and granddaughter of Cecil Francis William Fane, who wed Lady Augusta Rousm daughter of the 2nd Earl of Stradbroke.

Brigadier Sir (John) Nicholas Somerville, Kt, CBE 1924-2018

_. Brigadier Sir Nicholas Somerville, Kt, CBE, who died 9 September, 2018, aged 94, was a survivor of the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, and was descended from the Barons Fermoy.

Sir Nicholas was closely related to the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex. His mother was a first cousin of the 4th Baron Fermoy, who was father of the Hon Frances Shand Kydd, mother of Diana, Princess of Wales.

He was born 16 January, 1924, son of Brigadier Desmond Henry Sykes Somerville, CBE, MC, by his wife the former Moira Burke Roche, and was educated at Winchester.

Career: Commissioned, The South Wales Borderers, 24th Regiment 1943; served in France and Germany, D-Day - VE Day 1944-45 (mentioned in Despatches 1945); BAOR, War Office FARELF, Aden 1967-68 (Despatches 1968); Directing Staff, JSSC 1967-69; Commandant, Junior Div, Staff College, 1969-72; Director of Army Recruiting  1973-75; retired from the Army in 1978; Managing Director, Saladin Security Ltd 1981-84.

He was appointed CBE in 1975, and knighted in 1985.

Sir Nicholas married in 1951, Jenifer Dorothea Nash, by whom he had one son, Robin, and two daughters, Philippa and Penelope.

A Thanksgiving Service will take place at All Saints' Church, Odiham, Hampshire, Thursday 29 November, 2018.

_. Field Marshal the Lord Vincent of Coleshill, GBE, KCB, DSO, life peer, Chief of the Defence Staff 1991-92, died from a heart attack, 8 September, 2018. He was 87.

Richard Frederick Vincent was born 23 Aug, 1931, son of Frederick Vincent by his wife the former Frances Elizabeth Coleshill, and was educated at Aldenham School, and the Royal Military College Sandhurst.

He was commissioned into the Royal Artillery; National Service, 1951; served in Germany 1951-55; Gunnery Staff, 1959; Radar Res, Establishment, Malvern, 1960-61; BOAR, 1962; Technical Staff Training, 1963-4; Staff College, 1965; Commonwealth Bde, Malaysia, 1966-68; Ministry of Defence, 1968-70; Comd 12th Ligh Air Defence Regiment in Germany, UK, and Northern Ireland, 1970-72; Instructor at the Staff College, 1972-3; Greenlands Staff College, Henley, 1974; Military Director of Studies, RMSC 1974-75; Comd 19 Airportable Brigade, 1975-77; RCDS, 1978; Deputy Military Secretary, 1979-80; Comdt Royal Military College of Science, 1980-83; Master-General of the Ordnance, Ministry of Defence, 1983-87; VCDS 1987-91; CDS, 1991-92; Chairman of the Military Committee of NATO, 1993-96; Master Gunner, St James's Park, 1996-2000; &c.

He was awarded the DSO in 1972; appointed KCB in 1994; GBE, 1990; created a life peer as Baron Vincent of Coleshill, of Shrivenham in the County of Oxford, 1996.

He married in 1955, Jean Paterson Stewart, daughter of Kenneth Stewart, by his wife the former Jane Banks, by whom he had 2 sons and one daughter. He was predeceased by one of his sons.

She chose to style herself Lady Davina Barnard following her divorce.

She was born 29 June, 1931, as Lady Davina Mary Cecil, daughter of the 6th Marquess of Exeter (1905-81), by his wife the former Lady Mary Theresa Montagu Douglas Scott (1904-84), scion of the Dukes of Buccleuch and Queensberry.

Lady Davina was a niece of Lady Alice Montagu Douglas Scott (1901-2004), who married Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, third son of HM King George V.

She married in 1952 (divorced in 1992), the 11th Baron Barnard (1923-2016), by whom she had issue, including the 12th Baron Barnard.

_. Sally-Rose Gordon-Lennox, who died whilst fishing on the River Spey, 5 September, 2018, aged 81, was the wife of the late Major-Gen Bernard Charles Gordon-Lennox, CB, MBE (1932-2017), scion of the Dukes of Richmond & Gordon.

She was a daughter of John Weston Warner (1901-81) by his wife the former Joan Croft, and married in 1958, Maj-Gen Gordon-Lennox, son of Lt-Gen Sir George Gordon-Lennox, KBE, CB, CVO, DSO, &c.

She was the mother of three sons.

_. Melanie Elwes (nee Kantorowicz), wife of Rupert William Elwes (born 1975), scion of that landed gentry family, of Congham, gave birth to a son, Caspar Louis, 4 September, 2018, a brother for Oliver Rex (born 2011), and for Eva Mary (born 2014).

She was the former Frances Mary Rainey-Robinson, daughter of Colonel Robert Maximilian Rainey-Robinson, and married firstly, Squadron Leader William Dudley Williams, DFC, by whom she had issue; married 2ndly, 1986, as his second wife, Sir (Philip) John Caledon Grey Egerton, 15th Baronet, who died in 2008.

She leaves two daughters from her first marriage, Caroline and Amanda.

The funeral takes place Monday 24 September, 2018, at St Peter’s Church, West Knighton, Dorchester.

Petronella Troubridge (died 2018)

_. Mrs Petronella Troubridge, who died 2 September, 2018, was the second wife of Thomas Troubridge (1939-2015), scion of the Troubridge baronets (cr GB, 1799).

She was the former Petronella von Woyrsch, daughter of Siegfried von Woyrsch, of Portals Nous, Mallorca, by his wife Sibylle von Gersdorff, and was niece of Udo von Woyrsch, a high ranking Nazi official responsible for implementing the regime's racial policies in the Second World War.

She married firstly (div), James Russell Forgan Jr, (1930-2001), a New York businessman; married 2ndly, 1981, as his second wife, Thomas Troubridge (1939-2015), who had married firstly, 1971 (divorced 1977, and marriage annulled  by the Roman Catholic Church 1978) Baroness Marie-Christine Hedwig Agnes Ida von Reibnitz (she married 30 June, 1978, as her second husband, HRH Prince Michael of Kent).

Mrs Troubridge left no children from her second marriage.

A Memorial Service is to take place at Chelsea Old Church, 23 Oct, 2018.

__. Michael Hugh Cave, died 1 September, 2018. He was 83.

Born in 1934 the son of Lawrence Charles Henry Cave (b 1896) of Stone Hill, Petersfield, by his wife the former Joan George, and grandson of Wilhelmina Mary Henrietta Kerr, scion of the Marquesses of Lothian, &c.

There will be a Memorial Service at The Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Petworth, on Thursday 22nd November, 2018.

Jainey Anne, Viscountess Bolingbroke & St John (died 2018)

 Jainey Anne, Viscountess Bolingbroke, died at Christchurch, New Zealand, 24 August, 2018, aged 74.

She was the former Jainey Anne McRae, daughter of Alexander Duncan McRae, of Timaru, New Zealand, and married December, 1972, as his second wife, the then Kenneth Oliver Musgrave St John (born 22 March, 1927), scion of the Viscounts Bolingbroke, son of Capt Henry Robert St John (1889-1972), and his wife the former Katharine Mary Musgrave (who died 22 April, 1958).

Her husband succeeded his kinsman, 1 May, 1974, as the 11th Baronet St. John, of Lidiard Tregoze, co. Wilts [E., 1611], and as the 7th Baron St. John of Lydiard Tregoze, co. Wilts [G.B., 1712], & as the 7th Viscount Bolingbroke, co. Lincoln [G.B., 1712], and as the 8th Viscount St. John, of Battersea, co. Surrey [G.B., 1716]. 

She and Viscount Bolingbroke were divorced in 1987, and he died 5 July, 2010, when he was succeeded by his son, Henry, the 9th Viscount (1957-2011), from his first marriage.

Jainey St John leaves issue, two sons, Oliver St John (born in January, 1972 before his parents married), and Nicholas (born 20 June, 1974), who succeeded his elder half-brother as the 9th Viscount, 21 May, 2011.

_. Catalina Aykroyd, who died 31 August, 2018, was the wife of Bertram Aykroyd (1915-83), scion of the Aykroyd baronets. She was the former Catalina Marchington, daughter of Henry Marchington, and married Bertram Aykroyd, as his second wife, 28 September, 1949, by whom she had three children. Her husband, a son of Sir Frederick Aykroyd, 1st Baronet, died 13 Dec, 1983.
