Gillian Mary, Lady Birkmyre, widow of Sir Archibald Birkmyre, 3rd Baronet, died 24 December, 2023, aged 93.
She was born Gillian Mary Downes in 1930, daughter of Eric Mytton Downes, OBE (1901-1963), and his wife the former Ella Mary Ball (1899-1959); and married 2 May, 1953, Archibald Birkmyre (born 12 February, 1923), son of Sir Henry Birkmyre, 2nd Baronet (1898-1992), and his wife the former Doris Gertrude Smith (1901-1992), by whom she had issue, a son, James, and two daughters, Alison and Serena.
Her husband succeeded his father, 10 March, 1992, as third baronet, and died 7 May, 2001, when he was succeeded by their son, Sir James Birkmyre, 4th Baronet (born 29 February, 1956).
