Managing director Phoenix Securities Ltd., London, 1984-1997. Vice chairman Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette International, 1997-2000, CSFB, 2000-2001. Chairman Hawkpoint Ltd., London, since 2001.

He married firstly, 22 April, 1972, Anne Clouët des Pesruches [died February, 1988], married 2ndly, 25 September, 1997, Mrs Clare M McMullen [nee Straker], former wife of Fergus McMullen, who survives him together with three daughters from his first marriage, Iona, Camilla and Serena, and a son, Nicholas, from his second marriage.

He leaves a widow and three children, John Gavin [born 5 Apr, 1967], and two daughters, Caroline Emma Louisa Gray [born 7 Nov, 1969], and Katharine Heather Elizaabeth Bolder [born 23 Oct, 1974].

Rupert Ivan Archibald Douglass [born 2020]

Ronald Timothy Renton was born 28 May, 1932, son of Ronald Kenneth Duncan Renton [1897-1980], by his wife the former Eileen Doris Torr, MBE, and married 2 Apr, 1960, Alice Blanche Helen Fergusson [born 15 Sept, 1934], scion of the Fergusson baronets, of Kilkerran, daughter of Sir James Fergusson, 8th Baronet [1904-73], by his wife the former Louise Frances Balfour Stratford Dugdale [died 1988], by whom he had issue, 2 sons, and 3 daughters.

He served as Parliamentary Under Secretary, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, 1984-5; Minister of State, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, 1985-87; Minister of State, Home Office 1987-89; Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury [Chief Whip] 1989-90; Minister of State, Ministry for the Arts, 1990-92, &c.

On his retirement from the Commons he was created a life peer, in 1997, as Baron Renton of Mount Harry, of Offham in the County of Sussex.

 _. Mary Stella Fetherston-Dilke, CBE, died in Winchester, 23 August, 2020. She was 101.

She was born 21 September, 1918, daughter of Beaumont Albany Percival, later Fetherston-Dilke, by his wife the former Phoebe Stella Riland-Bedford, granddaughter maternally of Sir James Chance, 1st Baronet.

Her father, descended maternally from the Fetherston family, assumed, in 1918, the surname of Fetherston-Dilke, by Royal Licence, on succeeding to Maxstone Castle.

She married firstly, 3 March, 1961 [divorced 1987], as his second wife, the then Richard Archibald Fortescue [1922-93], styled Viscount Ebrington, who in 1977 succeeded as the 7th Earl Fortescue, son of the 6th Earl Fortescue [1893-1977], by his wife the former Marjorie Ellinor Trotter.

She married 2ndly, 28 January, 1988, as his third wife, Jocelyn Olaf Hambro [1919-94], scion of that landed gentry family, son of Ronald Olaf Hambro [1885-1961], by his wife the former Winifred Emily Ridley-Smith [who died as the result of a boating accident in 1932].

Mrs Hambro leaves two daughters from her marriage to Lord Fortescue, Lady Laura Margaret Jamieson [born 1 May, 1962], and Lady Sarah Jane Fortescue [born 16 Aug, 1963].

 _. Brian Mark Whitlock-Blundell, of Crosby Hall, Little Crosby, Merseyside, died 19 August, 2020. He was 97.

He was born in 1922, at Battle, Sussex, as Brian Mark Whitlock, second son of Mark Kingsley Whitlock, of Braziers Farm, Chipperfield, Hertfordshire, and married 26 January, 1950, Hester Mary Blundell [1928-2001], daughter of Francis Nicholas Blundell [1880-1936], of Crosby Hall, by his wife the former Theresa Victoria Ward.

His wife succeeded as head of the landed gentry family of Blundell, of Crosby Hall, and in consequence of this Mr Whitlock assumed the surname of Whitlock-Blundell by deed poll.

Mr Whitlock-Blundell was the father of eight, sons Mark, Richard, Joseph, Thomas and Christopher, and daughters, Mary, Emma and Monica.

 Mark John Henry Pepys, 9th Earl of Cottenham (born 11 Oct, 1983) (Peerage of the UK, cr 1850), is son of the late 8th Earl of Cottenham (1948-2000), by his wife the former Sarah Lombard-Hobson (born 1951) (now Mrs Richard Ford, of London.

The Countess is the former Miss Juan Du, daughter of Mr Yuming Du and Mrs Hanfen Li, of Kunming, China.

Lord Cottenham succeeded to the family honours on his father's death, 20 Oct, 2000.

 _. The Hon Desmond Walter Guinness, who has died aged 88, was co-founder of the Irish Georgian Society, and scion of the Barons Moyne. His home was at Leixlip Castle, Co Kildare.

He was born 8 September, 1931, the second son of the 2nd Baron Moyne [1905-1992], by his 1st wife, the Hon Diana Freeman-Mitford [1910-2003], scion of the Barons Redesdale, one of the famed Mitford sisters, third of the six daughters of the 2nd Baron Redesdale [1878-1958].

Desmond Guinness married firstly, 3 July, 1954 [divorced 1981] Hermione Marie-Gabrielle Petronella Sophia Devota Florestine, Princess von Urach [1932-89], known as 'Mariga', daughter of Albrecht Eberhard Karl Gero-Maria Prince von Urach [1903-69], by his first wife the former Rosemary Blackadder [1901-75]. He married 2ndly, in 1985, Penelope 'Penny' Cuthbertson, daughter of Graham Cuthbertson.

He leaves issue from his first marriage, Patrick Desmond Carl-Alexander, who was born 1 Aug 1956, and a daughter, Marina, born 16 Aug, 1957. 

His granddaughter is Jasmine Leonora Guinness [born 28 Sept, 1976], the designer and fashion model.

Thomas Sherlock Heywood Gooch 1943-2020

 _. Thomas Sherlock Heywood Gooch, who died 11 August, 2020, aged 76, was a scion of the Gooch baronets, and heir presumptive to his brother, Sir Arthur Gooch, 14th Bt.

He was born 12 November, 1943, son of Colonel Brian Sherlock Gooch [1904-68], by his wife the former Monica Mary Heywood [died 1975], and was a grandson of Sir Thomas Vere Sherlock Gooch, 10th Baronet [1881-1946].

He married 22 May, 1970, Elizabeth Joan Peyton [born 1948], daughter of Brig. Guy Arthur Eliot Peyton [died 1958], by his wife the former Joan Amy Sebag-Montefiore, scion of that landed gentry family.

Tom Gooch is survived by his wife and a son, Robert Brian Sherlock, who was born 1976, who now is heir presumptive to the Gooch baronetcy, and a daughter, Caroline Elizabeth, born in 1973.

A private funeral will be webcast on Monday 24 August, 2020. A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Greens Norton at a later date.

She was appointed DBE in 1993.

She was born 8 July, 1927, as Mary Drummond Buchanan-Smith, daughter of Brigadier Alick Drummond Buchanan-Smith [1898-1984], soldier and geneticist, who was Deputy Chairman of the Unionist Party in Scotland 1960-63, and created a life peer, in 1963, as Baron Balerno.

Her mother was the former Mary Kathleen Smith. She died in 1947.

3rd Baron Altrincham 1934-2020

 _. Lord Altrincham, the 3rd Baron, died in Spain, 1 August, 2020. He was 86.

Anthony Ulrick David Dundas Grigg was born 12 January, 1934, a younger son of the 1st Baron Atrincham [1879-1955], by his wife the former Hon Joan Alice Katherine Dickson-Poynder [1897-1987], daughter of the 1st and last Baron Islington [1866-1936].

His father, as Edward Grigg, was National Liberal MP for Oldham, and later for Altrincham, and later Gov and C-in-C of Kenya, and created a peer in 1945.

Anthony Grigg succeeded as 3rd Baron Altrincham, 31 Dec, 2001, on the death of his elder brother, John Grigg [1924-2001], who succeeded his father in 1955, and disclaimed his peerage for life in July, 1963, under the terms of the Peerage Act of that year. John Grigg caused a furore in 1957 criticising the court around Queen Elizabeth II and insulted the Queen personally referring to her style of speaking as a 'pain in the neck.'

Anthony Grigg married 2 March, 1965, Comtesse Eliane de Cassagne de Beaufort, second daughter of the Marquis de Miramont, by whom he had issue, two sons, Edward and Steven, and a daughter, Anne.

The elder son, the Hon Edward Sebastian Grigg, born 18 Dec, 1965, succeeds as 4th Baron Altrincham.

The marriage took place, 24 July, 2020, at Chelsea Old Church between Mr Thomas Alexander van Straubenzee (b 1982), scion of that landed family, eldest son of Mr Alexander Henry van Straubenzee (b 1951), by his wife the former Claire Sonia Fenwick (b 1954), & Miss Lucy Lanigan-O'Keeffe [born circa 1988], daughter of Stephen Lanigan-O'Keeffe.

Tom van Straubenzee, a life-long friend of the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex, is godfather to Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. He married firstly, in 2013, the Lady Melissa Percy, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. The marriage ended in divorce.

Miss Lanigan-O'Keeffe, originally from County Kilkenny, is the assistant head teacher at Thomas's, Clapham, the school attended by Prince George of Cambridge. Her father is a barrister. Her brother, Arthur, is the Irish Olympic pentathlete.

Tom van Straubenzee is descended from the Montagu Dukes of Manchester.

Lucy van Straubenzee is descended from John Lanigan (1800-1868) of Glenaguile, Nenagh, county Tipperary, Member of Parliament, married Frances daughter of Charles O'Keeffe of Richmond, county Tipperary and granddaughter of Cornelius O'Keeffe Member of Parliament. John was the son of Stephen Lanigan and he became a barrister. His eldest son Stephen Martin Lanigan assumed the additional name of O'Keeffe in 1895. In the mid 19th century members of the Lanigan family held land in the parishes of Newtownlennon and Kilvemnon, barony of Slievardagh, Aghnameadle and Latteragh, barony of Upper Ormond and Templemore, barony of Ikerrin, county Tipperary. In the 1870s Stephen M. Lanigan of Glenaguill owned 1,639 acres in county Tipperary. There is no substanial house marked on the first edition Ordnance Survey map for the townland of Glenaguile in the parishes of Aghnameadle and Latteragh. John Lanigan held the townland from the Honourable Mrs Otway Cave at the time of Griffith's Valuation. No house in the townland was rated at £3 or more for valuation purposes.

Anthony Paul Lester was born 3 July, 1936, son of Harry and Kate Lester. He married in 1971, Catherine Elizabeth Debra Wassey, by whom he had one son and one daughter.

2nd Baron Renwick 1935-2020

_. The 2nd Baron Renwick died 2 August, 2020. He was 84.

Harry Andrew Renwick was born 10 Oct, 1935, son of the 1st Baron Renwick, KBE [1904-73], by his first wife the former Dorothy Mary Parkes [1908-2001].

He succeeded his father as 2nd Baron and 3rd Baronet, 30 August, 1973. The baronetcy was created in 1927, and the peerage, one of the last hereditary baronies, was created in 1964.

He married firstly, 27 Apr, 1965 [div 1989], Susan Jane Lucking [born 1939], daughter of Capt Kenneth Stephen Lucking [1910-40]; married secondly, 12 June, 1989, Mrs Homayoun Mazandi,  daughter of Maj Mahmoud Yazdamparst Pakzad. He leaves 2 sons from his first marriage, Robert and Michael.

The elder son, the Hon Robert James Renwick, born 19 August, 1966, succeeds as 3rd Baron. He is unmarried.

Georgie Dunlop is a daughter of Peter Kenneth Spencer and the former Stephanie Moira Russell.
