Hon Dame Mary Corsar, DBE 1927-2020

 _.The Hon Dame Mary Corsar, DBE, has died aged 93.

She was Chairman TSB Foundation Scotland 1994-97 [Trustee 1992-97]; Women's Royal Voluntary Service 1988-93; Deputy Chief Commissioner Girl Guides for Scotland, 1972-77; Chairman, Scottish WRVS, 1981-88. Member: Visiting Committee, Glenochil Young Offenders Institution, 1976-94; Parole Board for Scotland, 1982-89; Hon Pres., Scottish Women's AAA, 1973-91; Member, Executive Committee, Trefoil Centre for Handicapped, 1975-; Convocation, Heriot-Watt University, 1986-89; Member, Royal Anniversary Trust, 1990-93; Governor of Fettes College, 1984-99; FRSE, 1997.

She was appointed DBE in 1993.

She was born 8 July, 1927, as Mary Drummond Buchanan-Smith, daughter of Brigadier Alick Drummond Buchanan-Smith [1898-1984], soldier and geneticist, who was Deputy Chairman of the Unionist Party in Scotland 1960-63, and created a life peer, in 1963, as Baron Balerno.

Her mother was the former Mary Kathleen Smith. She died in 1947.

She married 25 April, 1953, Colonel Charles Herbert Kenneth Corsar, LVO, OBE, TD [1926-2012], Vice Lord-Lieutenant of the ,Lothian Region [District of Midlothian] 1993-97, son of Kenneth Charles Corsar, by his wife Winifred Paton [nee Herdman], by whom she had issue, two sons and three daughters.
