The engagement was announced 30 November, 2024, between Dr David Smith, son of Mr and Mrs Patrick Smith, of Ringstead, Northamptonshire, and Tessa Clare Meredith Hardy (born 1987), scion of that landed gentry family, only daughter of Timothy Alexander Meredith Hardy (born 1950), of Cherrington, Warwickshire, and his wife the former Bridgt Mackenzie Scott.
