_. The Lady Anne Wake-Walker, who has died aged 99, was a scion of the Earls Spencer and an aunt of Diana, Princess of Wales.

She was born the Hon Anne Spencer, 4 Aug, 1920, daughter of Albert Edward John Spencer, then styled Viscount Althorp [1892-1975], by his wife the former Lady Cynthia Elinor Beatrix Hamilton [1897-1972], OBE, DCVO, scion of the Dukes of Abercorn. Anne's father succeeded his father as 7th Earl Spencer, 26 September, 1922, and died 9 June, 1975, aged 83. She became Lady Anne on her father's succession.

Her younger brother Edward John [Johnny], was the 8th Earl Spencer [1924-92], father of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Lady Anne served as an officer in the WRENS in the Second World War.

Lady Anne married 10 February, 1944, Captain Christopher Baldwin Hughes Wake-Walker, RN [1920-1998], of East Bergholt, co Suffolk, scion of the Walker baronets, son of Admiral Sir William Frederic Wake-Walker, KCB [1888-1945], by his wife the former Muriel Elsie Hughes [died 1963], scion of the Hughes baronets. The then Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret attended the Wake-Walker's wedding reception at Admiralty House.

Adrian Kelso Hamilton [1897-1960], by his wife the former Susannah Mary Arbuthnott [1901-83], scion of the Viscounts of Arbuthnott. He was the father of two sons, and two daughters. His son, Rowland [1961-2017], married Elisabeth Storey [b 1964], scion of the Storey baronets. His daughter, Julia Clare [b 1961], married in 1981, David Leslie-Melville, styled Lord Balgonie [1954-2007], son and heir of the 16th Earl of Leven and Melville. His daughter, Anna, married Thomas Adby Collins, scion of that landed family.

She married 20 July, 1950, Thomas Alfred Spry Carlyon [1923-99], son of Maj Alfred Spry Carlyon [1879-1955], by his wife the former Gwendoline Young-Jamieson. She leaves a son, William, and a daughter, Nicola.

The funeral takes place at St Paul's Church, Charlestown, St Austell, Cornwall, 2 March, 2020.

The Baroness MacLehose of Beoch [died 2020]

_. The Baroness MacLehose of Beoch (née Dunlop), who died 16 February, 2020, aged 99, was the widow of the Baron MacLehose of Beoch, KT, GCVO, GBE [1917-2000], Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Hong Kong 1971-1982.

She was the former Margaret Noel Dunlop, daughter of Sir Thomas Dunlop, and married diplomat Crawford Murray MacLehose, in 1947. 

Her husband served as British Ambassador to Vietnam 1967-69, and to Denmark, 1969-71, was created a life peer in 1982, and appointed a Knight of the Thistle in that year.

Lady MacLehose is survived by a daughter, the Hon Sylvia Margaret Sandeman [born 1949], and was predeceased by a daughter, the Hon Elfrida Wedgwood.

The funeral takes place at St Oswald's Episcopal Church, Maybole, Ayrshire, 26 February, 2020.

Alan Ball is a son of Mr & Mrs Gregory Ball, of Shellharbour, Australia, and Lucinda is a daughter of the late Robin George Newman [1936-2009], by his wife the former Lavinia Anlaby Legard [born 1944], scion of the Legard baronets.

Lucinda's paternal grandfather, George Christopher Newman married Lady Nina Joan Edith Virginia Villiers [1908-71], daughter of the 6th Earl of Clarendon.

Hon Tessa Mary Ogilvie Thompson 1934-2020

_. The Hon Tessa Ogilvie Thompson, who died 14 February, 2020, aged 85, was one of the co-heirs to the ancient Barony of Dacre, and a scion of the viscounts Hampden.

She was born the Hon Tessa Mary Brand, 21 April, 1934, fourth daughter of the 4th Viscount Hampden, CMG [1900-1965] who also succeeded as 26th Baron Dacre, by his wife the former Leila Emily Seely [1900-1996], scion of the Seely baronets.

She married 24 July, 1956, Julian Ogilvie Thompson, daughter of Newton Ogilvie Thompson [1904-92], by his wife the former Anne Agnes Eve Wiener [1905-2000], by whom she had issue, two son, Christopher and Anthony, and two daughters, Rachel and Katharine.

On her father's death, 17 October, 1965, his viscouncty of Hampden passed to his closest male heir, and the Barony of Dacre [created in 1321] fell into abeyance between his two surviving daughters, Rachel [born in 1929], and Tessa [born in 1934], and in 1970 the abeyance was terminated in favour of the elder daughter, Rachel [1929-2012], who became [27th] Baroness Dacre in her own right.

His granddaughter, Cecilia Colacicchi [born 1988], married 2016, Henry Miles Fitzalan Howard, styled Earl of Arundel and Surrey [born 3 Dec, 1987], son and heir of the 18th Duke of Norfolk [b 2 Dec, 1956].

_. The Baroness Stevens of Ludgate, who died 11 February, 2020, aged 80, was the third wife of the life peer Baron Stevens of Ludgate [born 26 May, 1936].

The Russian-born former photographer Meriza Giori was born in January, 1939, & married David Stevens as his third wife in 1990 [his second wife having died choking on a peach in 1989].

David Stevens was Chairman of United Newspapers, 1981-99, and created a life peer in 1987, as Baron Stevens of Ludgate. Originally a Conservative peer he defected to UKIP in later years.

She was a great-granddaughter of Sir Donald Cameron of Lochie, 25th Chief of the Clan [1876-1951], who married Lady Hermione Graham [1882-1978], daughter of the 5th Duke of Montrose, and a great-great-granddaughter of Lady Margaret Montagu-Douglas-Scott [1846-1918], daughter of the 5th Duke of Buccleuch & Queensberry [1806-84], &c.

Sir Hugh Guy Cubitt, CBE 1928-2020

_. Sir Hugh Cubitt, CBE, who died 6 February, 2020, aged 91, was a former Lord Mayor of Westminster and cousin of HRH The Duchess of Cornwall.

Hugh Guy Cubitt was born 2 July, 1928, son of Lieutenant-Col the Hon Charles Guy Cubitt [1903-79], by his wife the former Rosamond Mary Edith Cholmeley [1904-84], scion of the Cholmeley baronets, and was a grandson of the 2nd Baron Ashcombe [1867-1947].

He was educated at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and Greenwich, and was a naval cadet in the closing months of the Second World War. He served as a Lieut [RN] in the Korean War 1949-51. Elected to Westminster City Council in 1963, and later became its leader. He served as Lord Mayor of Westminster 1977-78. In 1983 he was knighted and served as High Sheriff of Surrey in that year.

Hugh Cubitt married 26 June, 1958, Linda Ishbel Campbell [born 1934], scion of the Barons Colgrain, daughter of the Hon Angus Dudley Campbell, by his wife the former Joan Pakenham, scion of the Earls of Longford. He leaves a widow and a son Jonathan and two daughters, Joanna and Victoria.

_. David Offley Crewe-Read died 31 January, 2020. He was 75. He was a scion of the Crewe landed family from whom descended the now extinct Marquesses of Crewe.

He was born in 1944, a son of Colonel John Offley Crewe-Read [1908-], by his wife the former Hon Diana Wroughton Robins [died 2007], daughter of the 1st [and last] Baron Robins [1884-1962].

He married firstly, Elizabeth Jane Dyer, by whom he had issue, Caspian, Daniel and Gabriella. By his 2nd wife, the former Emma Garton, he had issue, Honey-Bee, Sacha, and Charles.

His eldest daughter, Gabriella, married Toby Grafftey-Smith [died 2017], a founder member of the band Jamiroquai.

A Service of Thanksgiving will take place at the Church of Our Most Holy Redeemer and St Thomas More, Chelsea, 13 March, 2020.

_. Christopher Gerald Pole-Carew, who died 12 February, 2020, aged 88, was born 17 May, 1931, son of Maj Gerald Ayshford Pole-Carew [1887-1969], by his wife the former Eileen Lorna O'Callaghan [died 1989]; married 3 Apr, 1954, Gillian Elizabeth Burton, by whom he had issue.

Mr Pole-Carew was for many years managing director of the Nottingham Evening Post Newspaper.

Mr Pole-Carew has descents from the Lytteltons and the Seymour Baronets [scions of the Dukes of Somerset] &c.

The 3rd and last Baron Greenhill 1924-2020

_. The 3rd Baron Greenhill died 13 January, 2020, at Newbury. He was 95.

Malcolm Greenhill was born 5 May, 1924, a younger son of the 1st Baron Greenhill [1887-1967], by his wife the former Ida Goodman [who died in 1985].

He succeeded to the peerage, created in 1950, on the death of his elder brother, Stanley, the 2nd Baron, 28 September, 1989.

Lord Greenhill was unmarried, and the peerage now becomes extinct.

The funeral will take place at West Berkshire Crematorium, 20 February, 2020.

She was born 15 May, 1942, as Diana Anne Sheffield, second daughter of John Vincent Sheffield [1913-2008], by his 1st wife the former Anne Margaret Faudel-Phillips [died 1969]. Her elder sister, Jane Stevens, was Lady in Waiting to HRH The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, for 32 years. A cousin, Davina Sheffield, was mooted as a possible Princess of Wales in the mid 1970s.

She married 9 July, 1966, David Mark Norman, scion of that landed family, son of Lieutenant-Colonel Mark Richard Norman, of Much Hadham, co Hertford, by whom she had issue, a son Jonathan [born 1972], and three daughters, Anna [born 1967], Isabella [born 1971], and Davina [born 1981]. Her middle daughter Isabella is the wife of the Hon Timothy Knatchbull [born 1964], a grandson of Admiral of the Fleet the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma [1900-79].

He was born in 1938 a son of Colonel George Jardine Kidston-Montgomerie of Southannan [1907-93], by his wife the former Lydia Cecilia Mason [d 1991]; his sister, Philippa married as her second husband the 7th Marquess Townshend.

He married in 1964, Margaret Ann Everett, daughter of R.A. Everett, by whom he had issue.

Mary Ada, Baroness Wrottesley, who died at Kirstenhof, Western Cape, South Africa, 31 January, 2020, aged 90, was the widow of the 5th Baron Wrottesley (1918-1977).

She was born 5 March, 1929, the only daughter of Edgar Dryden Tudhope, of Rondebosch, Cape Town, South Africa; and married 5 March, 1955, as his third wife, the then Richard John Wrottesley (born 7 July, 1918), son Lt the Hon Walter Bennet Wrottesley (1877-d 25 May, 1962), and his wife the former Kate May Harris, the only daughter of Douglas Howard Harris, of Craddock, Cape Colony, South Africa.

Her husband succeeded his uncle, 1 September, 1962, as 5th Baron Wrottesley (Peerage of the UK, cr 1838), and to the family baronetcy (cr 1642), and died 23 October, 1977.

Lady Wrottesley leaves issue, two sons, the Hon Stephen Wrottesley (born 21 Dec, 1955, died 4 Sept, 2003), and the Hon Nicholas Wrottesley (born 24 September, 1963).

Venetia's grandfather, Hugh Duncombe Flower [1878-1950], married Ida Hamilton [1883-1970], scion of the Dukes of Abercorn. She married Andrew Hugh Smith in 1964. He was a scion of the Smith of Midhurst landed gentry family and thus a kinsman of HM The Queen. Two sons of the marriage.
