He was a son of Edward A.A. Bartlam by his wife the former Lucinda Anne Baring [born 1980], scion of the Barons Northbrook, daughter of Nigel Baring [born 9 Aug, 1940], of Ardington, co Oxford, by his wife the former Jane Finola Byrne.

Alfie leaves a sister, Violet Lorna, born 24 March, 2011, and a brother, Kit.

The 10th Duke of Roxburghe 1954-2019

_. His Grace the 10th Duke of Roxburghe, landowner, owner of Floors Castle, Kelso, has died there from cancer, 29 August, 2019. He was 64.

Guy David Innes-Ker was born 18 November, 1954, son of the 9th Duke of Roxburghe [1913-1974], by his second wife the former Margaret Elisabeth McConnel [later Mrs Jocelyn Hambro], and he succeeded to the family honours on his father's death on the grouse moor, 26 Sept, 1974.

Guy Innes-Ker was 10th Duke of Roxburghe [Peerage of Scotland 1707], 10th Marquess of Bowmont and Cessford [Peerage of Scotland, 1707], Earl of Roxburghe and Earl of Kelso [both in the Peerage of Scotland], 5th Earl Innes [Peerage of the UK], 10th Viscount Broxmouth [Peerage of Scotland], 14th Lord Roxburghe [Peerage of Scotland], 14th Lord Ker of Cessford and Cavetoun [Peerage of Scotland], 10th Lord Cessford and Overton [Peerage of Scotland],  & Premier Baronet of Nova Scotia [cr 1625].

He was twice married, firstly, 10 Sept, 1977 [divorced 1990] to the Lady Jane Meriel Grosvenor [born 8 Feb 1953], daughter of the 5th Duke of Westminster [1910-79] by his wife the former Hon Viola Maud Lyttelton [d. 1987]; married secondly, 3 Sept 1992, Virginia Mary Wynn-Williams, daughter of David Wynn-Williams.

The Duke is survived by his second wife and by two sons and a daughter from the first marriage, Charles, Marquess of Bowmont & Cessford, Lord Ted Innes-Ker, and Rosanagh, Viscountess Grimston [a bridesmaid at the marriage of the Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson]. He also leaves a son from the second marriage, Lord George Innes-Ker, and a daughter, Lady Isabella Innes-Ker.

The dukedom and other honours now devolve upon his eldest son, Charles Robert George Innes-Ker, styled Marquess of Bowmont & Cessford, who was born 18 February, 1981. The Floors estate is estimated at 60,000 acres, and the family fortune is worth £100m.

The new duke was briefly married to the Hon Charlotte Susanna Aitken [born 15 Feb, 1982], daughter of the 3rd Baron Beaverbrook [born 29 Dec, 1951]. The 11th Duke has a three year-old daughter from a relationship with an Iranian fashion designer.

She was the former Caroline Evill, third daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Godfrey Evill, of Elm Park Gardens, London, by his wife the former Nesta Herbert [1910-2002], and married, 17 October, 1978, as his second wife, David Henry Brassey, 3rd Baron Brassey of Apethorpe, son of the 2nd Baron [1905-67] by his first wife the former Crystal Gloria Gore [died 1962], a granddaughter maternally of the 1st Earl Sondes, &c.

By her husband, who died in May 2015, she had two daughters, the Hon Zoe [born 1980], and the Hon Chloe [born 1982].

She was born in 1937 as Margaret Minette Rohais Anderson, a daughter of James Alasdair Anderson [1900-1982], by his wife the former Lady Flavia Joan Lucy Giffard [1910-98], daughter of the 2nd Earl of Halsbury, and married Ilay Campbell in 1961.

Lady Campbell is survived by two daughters, Cecilia [born 1963] and Candida [born 1964]. The elder daughter is Lady Macgregor of Macgregor, wife of Sir Malcolm Macgregor of Macgregor, 7th Baronet, the younger daughter is the wife of Gerard Rafferty.

The 6th Baron Kenyon 1947-2019

_. The Baron Kenyon, 6th holder of the peerage, died at his home, 17 August, 2019. He was 72.

Lloyd Tyrell-Kenyon was born 13 July, 1947, son of the 5th Baron Kenyon, CBE, JP, DL [1917-93], by his wife the former Leila Mary Cookson [died 2008]. His mother was a granddaughter maternally of Sir Alan Colquhoun of Luss, 6th Baronet.

He succeeded to the barony, created in 1788, and the baronetcy created four years earlier, on his father's death, 16 May, 1993.

He was President of Clwyd South Conservatives, and former Wrexham County Councillor for Overton.

Lord Kenyon married in 1971, Sally Carolyn Matthews, eldest daughter of Jack Frank Page Matthews, of Bury St Edmunds, co Suffolk, by whom he had two sons, Lloyd and Alexander.


He is succeeded in the peerage and baronetcy by his elder son, the Hon Lloyd Nicholas Tyrell-Kenyon, who was born 9 April, 1972.

Since the 17th century, the family were among the great landowner magnates of the Kingdom of Hungary during the time it was part of the Habsburg Monarchy and later Austria-Hungary.
During the history of the Habsburg empire, the Esterházys were consistently loyal to the Habsburg rulers. They received the title of count in 1626 and the Forchtenstein line received the title of Fürst (Ruling Prince) from the Holy Roman Emperor in 1712.

She married at Geneva, 10 September, 1976, John Sugden Lockwood [born 1938], who predeceased her.

The Baroness Gilbert 1929-2019

The Baroness Gilbert died 24 July, 2019. She was 89.  She was the widow of John William Gilbert, Labour MP for Dudley 1970-74 and for Dudley East 1974-97, Minister of State for Defence in the Callaghan Administration 1976-79, created a life peer in 1997 as Baron Gilbert, of Dudley in the County of West Midlands. Her husband died in 2013.

She was the former Jean Olive Ross-Skinner, born 14 Nov, 1929, daughter of William Milne Ross-Skinner,by his wife Olive Mary Caroline Pease [1906-80]; married 23 March, 1963, as his second wife, the abovementioned John Gilbert [1927-2013].

Sir John Michael Leal Uren, OBE 1923-2019

_. Sir Michael Uren, OBE, multi-millionaire founder of Civil & Marine, died 9 August, 2019. He was 95.

Sir Michael Uren donated £40m to his alma mater, Imperial College, London, and £30m to the King Edward VII Hospital for Officers. He was founder and chairman of Civil and Marine from 1955 tp 2006.

Appointed OBE in 1999 and knighted in 2016.

He leaves two sons. Sir Michael's funeral takes place at St Mildred's Church, Tenterden, Kent, 11 September, 2019.

He was also is a former Director of John Swire & Sons, former Deputy Chairman and subsequently Chairman of the Royal Opera. He was a former Non executive director of St. Andrew's Healthcare; and was a patron of the Longford Trust. He was also Chairman of the Prince's Trust.

Born 11 July, 1932, he was educated at Eton.

She was born 29 February, 1936, the daughter of Amyas Evelyn Giles Baring [1910-86], by his first wife the former Mona Montgomerie Mullins, from who he was divorced in 1949 [she died 1988]; she married 21 November, 1956 [divorced 1974] the Hon Peter Alistair Ward [1926-2008], scion of the Earls of Dudley, a son of the 3rd Earl of Dudley [1894-1969], by his 1st wife the former Lady Rosemary Millicent Leveson-Gower [1893-1930]; and had issue, [1] Rachel Claire Ward [b 12 Sept 1957] the actress [The Thornbirds, etc], [2] Tracy Louise Ward [b 22 Dec 1958] married 1987 [div 2018] the 12th Duke of Beaufort [b 22 May 1952], and [3] Alexander Evelyn Giles Ward [born 1 July 1961]. Claire Ward was the mistress for over 30 years of Antony, Viscount Lambton [the disclaimed Earl of Durham], and they lived together in Italy until his death in 2006.

Mrs Ward leaves 8 grandchildren.

Adrienne Drummond-Hay, who died 23 December, 2018, aged 97, was the second wife of George Thomson Drummond-Hay [1916-83], scion of the Earls of Kinnoull; she was Adrienne Ruth Southin, daughter of John William Southin, of Vancouver, and married [1]  ___Dillon, [2]____Russell, and [3] 1949 [divorced 1960] George Drummond-Hay. She is survived by four sons, John Dillon, and three sons from her marriage to Drummond-Hay, Eric, Charles and Leslie.

The Drummond-Hay surname came about in the mid-eighteenth century with the marriage of an Archbishop of York Robert Hay, later Hay-Drummond [1711-76], a son of the 8th Earl of Kinnoull, and one Henrietta Auriol. Their grandson, Edward, switched the surname round from Hay-Drummond to Drummond-Hay. The 7th Earl of Kinnoull's wife was the former Margaret Drummond, daughter of the 1st Viscount Strathallan.
