The 8th Baron Bolton 1954-2023

 Lord Bolton, the 8th Baron, a North Yorkshire landowner, died 10 June, 2023, aged 69.

He was seated at Wensley Hall, near Leyburn, close to the ancient family seat the 14th century Bolton Castle, Wensleydale.

Harry Algar Nigel Orde-Powlett was born 14 February, 1954, son and heir of the 7th Baron Bolton (1929-2001), and his 1st wife the former Hon Christine Helene Weld-Forester (1932-2012), daughter of the 7th Baron Forester (1899-1977); and he succeeded his father, 29 July, 2001, as 8th Baron Bolton, of Bolton Castle, in the County of York (Peerage of Gt Britain, created 1797).

The 8th Baron married 1stly, in 1977, Philippa Ann Tapply (1951-2016), daughter of Maj Peter Lansdell Tapply (born 1926, died 17 Jul, 2011), of Malvern, co Worcester, and his wife the former Sarah Audrey Barlow (1925-2005). His 1st wife died 16 May, 2016. He married his second wife Valerie Hamilton in 2019.

Lord Bolton leaves issue, three sons, Thomas, Benjamin and Nicholas. The eldest son, Capt the Hon Thomas Peter Algar Orde-Powlett, MC (born 16 Jul, 1979), succeeds as the 9th Baron Bolton. He served in the Irish Guards, is a veteran of the Iraq War, and was awarded the Military Cross in 2004.
