Gloria, Baroness Cottesloe, who died 21 December, 2021, aged 94, was the widow of the 4th Baron Cottesloe, GBE (1900-1994).
She was born at Watford, in 1927, as Gloria Jean Irene Dunn, but was adopted by W.E. Hill, of Barnstaple, Devon, and married 26 March, 1959, as his second wife, John Walgrave Halford Fremantle, the 4th Baron Cottesloe, GBE (born 2 March, 1900), son of the 3rd Baron, CB, VD, TD, JP (1862-1956), and his wife the former Florence Tapling (died 1956), by whom she had issue, a son Edward (born 18 June, 1961), and two daughters, Elizabeth & Flora.
Her husband succeeded his father, 19 July, 1956, as 4th Baron Cottesloe (Peerage of the UK, cr 1874), and he died 22 April, 1994. He served as the Chairman of the Arts Council of Great Britain and the South Bank Theatre Board, and was appointed GBE in 1960. At his demise he was succeeded by his son from his first marriage, John, 5th Baron Cottesloe (1927-2018).
