Major-General Jeremy Julian Joseph Phipps, CB, 1942-2021

 _. Major-General Jeremy Julian Joseph Phipps, CB, who died 16 March, 2021, aged 78, was a scion of the Earls of Mulgrave [later Marquesses of Normanby].

He was commissioned into the Queen's Own Hussars in 1962, and served in Germany, the Middle East and Far East; student US Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia, 1980; Commanded the Queen's Own Hussars 1981-83; COS, RMA Sandhurst 1983-85; Comdr 11th Armoured Brigade 1985-89; Director Special Forces 1989-93; Senior British Loan Service Officer, Sultanate of Oman 1993-96; retired from the amy, 1997; Managing Director, Network International 1997-2000; later Director of Special Accounts, Control Risk Group, from 2000; sometime head of security at the Jockey Club, &c.

He was born 30 June, 1942, son of Lieut Alan Phipps, RN [born 1915, killed in action at Leros, Greece, 1943], and his wife the former Hon Veronica Nell Fraser [1920-2005],  second daughter of the 14th Lord Lovat, KT, GCVO, KCMG, CB, DSO [1871-1933].

Maj-Gen Phipps's paternal grandfather was the Rt Hon Sir Eric Phipps, GCB, GCMG, GCVO [1875-1945], sometime British Ambassador to Germany.

He married 12 Oct, 1974, Susan Louise Crawford, daughter of Commander Wilfred Crawford, by whom he had issue, one son, Jake [born 1975], and one daughter, Jemma [born 1977].
