Lord Shutt of Greetland 1942-2020

 _. The Lord Shutt of Greetland, life baron, Liberal Democrat politician, died 30 October, 2020. He was 78.

He served as Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard [Deputy Chief Whip in the House of Lords] 2010-2012, in the Coalition Government led by David Cameron.

David Trevor Shutt was born 16 March, 1942. He stood unsuccessfully for Parliament at seven general elections between 1970 and 1992. He contested Sowerby in 1970, February 1974, October 1974, and 1979. After the abolition of the Sowerby seat, he contested the new Calder Valley constituency in 1983 and 1987. At the 1992 general election he was the Liberal Democrat candidate in Pudsey. 

David Shutt was appointed OBE in 1993, and in 2000 was created a life peer, taking the title Baron Shutt of Greetland, of Greetland and Stainland in the County of West Yorkshire. He was the Lib Dem spokesman on International Development until 2002. 

He married Margaret Pemberton in 1965, by whom he had two sons and a daughter.
