The engagement was announced 18 September, 2020, between James Iain Harry Macdonald Buchanan [born 4 February, 1963], second son of the late [Alexander] James Macdonald Buchanan [1931-2017], by his wife the former Elizabeth Vivian Smith [1939-2020], scion of the Barons Bicester, & Arabella Caroline Thring [born 1969], scion of that landed gentry family, second daughter of the late John Gale Wake Thring [born 1943, d], by his wife the former Dianne Elizabeth Jones [died 2015].
James Macdonald Buchanan is a scion of the Buchanan whisky family, and a great-grandson of the 1st and last Baron Woolavington. His late mother was a granddaughter paternally of the 1st Baron Bicester, and a granddaughter maternally of the 6th Earl of Rosebery [1882-1974].
It is James Macdonald Buchanan's second marriage. In 1996 he married Julia Crossley, scion of the Barons Somerleyton, by whom he has two children.
