_. The Lady Caroline Tyrrell, who died in Suffolk, 12 June, 2020, aged 90, was a scion of the Marquesses of Tweeddale.
She was born Caroline Elizabeth Susan Hay, 16 April, 1930, daughter of Major-General Lord Edward Douglas John Hay [1888-1944], by his second wife the former Audrey Clara Lilian Latham, scion of the Latham baronets.
Her father was killed by enemy action, 18 June, 1944, in the air raid which destroyed the Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks.
She was a granddaughter of the 10th Marquis of Tweeddale [1826-1911], and raised to the rank and precedence of the daughter of a Marquis in 1970, following her half-brother's succession to the Tweeddale peerages.
Caroline had an elder half-sister, Lady Marioth Hay [1918-2006], and a half-brother, David, 12th Marquis of Tweeddale [1921-79]. She was an aunt of the 13th Marquis [1947-2005], and the current, 14th Marquis [born 6 Aug 1947].
Lady Caroline was twice wed, firstly, 20 Oct 1953 [div 1970], Richard Noel Marshall Armitage [died 1986], married 2ndly, in 1970, Reginald Charles Tyrrell.
Lady Caroline leaves issue from her first marriage, a son, Alexander [born in 1958], and was predeceased by a son, Charles [1954-2017].
