The Baron Lloyd of Berwick, PC, DL 1929-2024

 The Baron Lloyd of Berwick, PC, DL, who died 8 December, 2024, aged 95, was a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, and a life peer.

Anthony John Leslie Lloyd was born 9 May, 1929, the son of John Edward Boydell Lloyd (who died 1987), and his wife the former Leslie Johnston Fleming (1900-1965), and was educated at Eton.

He served in the Coldstream Guards (1948); Fellow of Peterhouse (1953) (Hon Fellow, 1981), Fellow of Eton 1974-86; Called to the Bar at the Inner Temple (1955) (Bencher, Inner Temple, 1976, Treasurer, Inner Temple, 1999); QC (1967); Attorney-General to HM King Charles III (when Prince of Wales) 1969-77; Judge of the High Court of Justice, Queen's Bench Division, 1978-84; a Lord Justice of Appeal, 1984-93; Vice-Chairman of the Parole Board 1984-85; Member, Criminal Law Revision Committee (1981); Chairman of the Sussex Association for the Rehabilitation of Offenders, 1985-91; President, the Sussex Downsmen (1995), Vice-Pres, Maritime Law Association; Member, Top Salaries Review Board 1971-77; Chairman, Joint Ecclesiastical Committee from 2003; a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, 1993-99; Chairman of the Security Commission, 1992-99; &c.

He was knighted in 1978, sworn of the Privy Council in 1984; raised to the peerage for life in 1993, as Baron Lloyd of Berwick, of Ludlay in the County of East Sussex,

He married in 1960, Jane Helen Violet Shelford (born 1935), daughter of Cornelius William Shelford (1908-2001), of Chailey Place, Lewes, Sussex, by his wife the former Helen Beatrice Hilda Schuster (born 1910).
