Richard Makepeace Martineau, who died 10 December, 2024, aged 86, was a scion of that landed family, of Clapton Court, and a distant cousin of HRH The Princess of Wales, who shares his Martineau ancestry.
He was born in Apr 1938, son of John Edmund Martineau (1904-1982) and his wife the former Catherine Makepeace Thackeray Ritchie (1911-1995); and married 1stly, 1964, Theresa Ashton, by whom he had issue, a son, John (b 1967), and two daughters, Antonia (1969), and Imogen (1976); he married 2ndly, in September, 1981, Diane Calvert (born 7 Oct, 1941), daughter of Major Robert Henry Calvert (1912-1987), of Horsham, Sussex, scion of that landed gentry family, by his wife the former Monica Buxton (1916-2007).
Diane Martineau (nee Calvert) is a kinswoman of HM Queen Camilla, who is of Calvert descent. [The Queen's great grandmother, Lady Ashcombe, wife of of the 2nd Baron Ashcombe was nee Maud Calvert.]
