Sir John Anson, KCB, who died 11 November, 2024, aged 94, was a scion of the Anson baronets.
He was Second Permanent Secretary (Public Expenditure) HM Treasury, 1987-1990; he served in the Treasury 1954-1968; was Financial Counsellor, British Embassy Paris, 1968-71; Assistant Secretary 1971-72, Under-Secretary 1972-74, Cabinet Office; Under Secretary 1974-77, Deputy Secretary 1977-87, HM Treasury; Economic Minister, British Embassy Washington, and UK Executive Director, IMF and World Bank, 1980-83; Chairman, Public Finance Foundation, 1991-1994; Chairman Retirement Income Inquiry 1994-96; Hon Treasurer, Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland 1990-92; Chair, House of Laity, Southwark Diocesan Synod, 1996-97, &c.
He was born 3 Aug, 1930, younger son of Sir Edward Reynell Anson, 6th Baronet (1902-1951), and his wife the former Frances Alison Pollock (1903-1997)' and married 20 July, 1957, Myrica Anne Fergie-Woods (born 1933), daughter of Dr Harold Fergie-Woods, of Liphook, Hampshire, by whom he had two sons, Dr Christopher Anson (born 22 May, 1958), and Timothy John Anson (1967-1999), and two daughters, Rachel Mary (born 6 Dec, 1961), and Elizabeth Margaret (born 2 Nov, 1968).
His elder brother was Rear-Admiral Sir Peter Anson, 7th Baronet (1924-2018), and was the uncle of Sir Philip Anson, 8th Baronet (born 4 Oct, 1957).
