The Hon Oliver Walston, who died 14 July, 2024, aged 83, was born 11 June, 1941, son of Henry Walston, later the life peer, the Baron Walston, CVO (1912-1991), a farmer turned politician, first for Labour and then the Social Democratic Party, who originated from a New York Jewish family called Waldstein.
His mother was Catherine Macdonald Crompton (1916-1978), a glamorous American who embarked on a 13-year affair with the novelist Graham Greene during Oliver’s childhood.
Oliver Walston had a brief first marriage in 1966 (div), to Leslie, daughter of Milton Gordon, of Manhattan, New York, and married 2ndly, in 1969, Anne Lowell Dunbar, daughter of William Dunbar, of Washington DC, by whom he had a son and two daughters.
