Sir Matthew Farrer, GCVO, who died 21 May, 2023, aged 93, was for 30 years private solicitor to Queen Elizabeth II.
Charles Matthew Farrer was born 3 December, 1929, son of Sir (Walter) Leslie Farrer, KCVO (died 1984), and his wife the Hon Marjorie Laura Pollock (died 1981), daughter of the 1st Viscount Hanworth, KBE, PC, JP (1861-1936).
Career: Trustee of the British Museum 1989-1999; Commissioner, Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts 1991- ; Member, British Library Board 1994-2000; Private Solicitor of HM Queen Elizabeth II, 1965-1994; Partner, Messers Farrer & Co, Solicitors, 1959-1994, &c.
He was appointed CVO in 1973, KCVO in 1983, and GCVO in 1994.
He married 1962, Johanna Bennhold, by whom he had issue, a son, Luke, and a daughter, Mabella.
