Hubert Grace Phipps 1957-2023

 Hubert Grace Phipps, who died as the result of an accident on his farm in Middleburg, Virginia, United States, 18 June, 2023, aged 65, was a grandson maternally of the 7th Earl of Radnor.

He was born 1 November, 1957, son of Hubert Beaumont Phipps (1905-1969), and his wife the Lady Phoebe Pleydell-Bouverie (1932-1995), daughter of the 7th Earl of Radnor (1895-1968). 

Phipps was an American sculptor and painter who divided his time between Middleburg, Virginia and New York City. Known for his paint pigment drawings and abstract sculptures, Phipps experimented with various forms and materials, including steel, bronze, wood, composites, plaster, glass, and marble. He was also a race car driver and a member of the Phipps family.

The Phipps family of the United States is a prominent American family that descends from Henry Phipps Jr. (1839–1930), a businessman and philanthropist. His father was an English shoemaker who immigrated in the early part of the 19th century to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before settling in Pittsburgh. Phipps grew up with Andrew Carnegie as a friend and neighbor. As an adult, he was Carnegie's business partner in the Carnegie Steel Company and became a very wealthy man. He was the company's second-largest shareholder and also invested in real estate.
