The 2nd Baron Simon of Wythenshawe (born ;10 April, 1955), has changed his gender to that of a woman under the terms of the Gender Recognition Act 2004, and by deed poll has changed his Christian name from Matthew to Matilda.
The former Matthew Simon was the only son of the 2nd Baron Simon of Wythenshawe (1913-2001), and his wife the former Anthea Daphne May (1922-2006). He succeeded his father in the peerage, 14 October, 2001, and in 2015 came out as a transgender woman.
Matilda having inherited the title in 2001 was not formally recognised as holding the peerage until the Lord Chancellor approved her claim in 2022. The Gender Recognition Act 2014 says a person changing gender 'does not affect the descent of any peerage or dignity or title of honour'.
