The engagement was announced 23 January, 2023, between Algernon David B. Trotter (born 1987), scion of that landed gentry family of Mortonhall, son of Gerald Richard Trotter (born 6 Dec, 1946), of Westminster, London, and his wife the former Caroline D.B. Sheppard (born 1951), and Ieva Smilga, elder daughter of Mr & Mrs Andis Smilga, of Valmiera, Latvia.
