The Countess of Dysart, MBE, wife of the the 13th Earl of Dysart, died as the result of a motor accident, 16 September, 2022. She was 73.
The Countess, a Scottish Highland community figure was killed in a crash on the A9. She was driving an Audi A4 which collided with a coach at Slochd, near Aviemore, on 16 September, 2022. She died at the scene. Lady Dysart with her husband the earl built up the Rothiemurchus estate as a tourist attraction for its outdoor activities and wildlife conservation. Her family said she was a "life force who will be hugely missed". The Countess was also a board figure at Maggie's cancer charity and was awarded an MBE for services to NHS Scotland.
She was the former [Wendy] Philippa Chance, the only daughter of John Wybergh Chance, of Llanvapley Court, Monmouthshire, and married 8 May, 1971, the then John Peter Grant yr of Rothiemurchus [born 22 October, 1946], son of Lt-Colonel John Peter Grant, 15th of Rothiemurchus, MBE [1915-87], of the Lovat Scouts, and his wife the Lady Katherine Greaves [1918-2011], whose mother, Wenefryde, was in her own right, Countess of Dysart and Lady Huntingtower, created 1643, in the Peerage of Scotland.
Her husband's mother succeeded as 12th Countess of Dysart, in her own right, in December, 2003, and died 8 November, 2011.
The Countess is survived by her husband and by a son, James, styled Lord Huntingtower [born 14 Sept, 1977], and two daughters, Lady Louisa [born 9 June 1975], and Lady Alexandra [born 3 July 1985].
The funeral takes place at The Doune of Rothiemurchus, 29 September, 2022.
